Job Title: Shop Foreman

Job Description

The Shop Foreman supervises technicians who repair and maintain rental diesel equipment, ensuring high-quality workmanship and efficient service operations. This role focuses on coordinating the service workflow, overseeing inspections and repairs, training technicians, and supporting overall branch productivity in a primarily outdoor, hands-on environment.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise technicians performing repairs and maintenance on rental diesel equipment to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and to a high standard of quality.

  • Coordinate and schedule service workflow, including assigning jobs, managing priorities, and balancing workload across the team.

  • Oversee and perform inspections of diesel equipment to identify maintenance needs, ensure proper operation, and reduce downtime.

  • Support overall branch operations by aligning shop activities with production goals and customer service requirements.

  • Provide on-the-job training, guidance, and support to technicians to develop their technical skills and ensure adherence to company procedures.

  • Monitor repair quality and verify that all maintenance and repair work meets required standards and specifications.

  • Work both at the shop and on-site as needed to supervise work, troubleshoot issues, and ensure timely completion of repairs.

  • Participate in on-call rotations on a weekly or monthly basis to support urgent service needs outside of standard hours.

  • Promote safe work practices in all shop and field activities and support completion of required safety training.

  • Perform hands-on labor as needed, including heavy lifting and physical tasks associated with equipment maintenance and repair.

Essential Skills

  • Proven experience working with diesel equipment, including repair and maintenance of rental or similar heavy equipment.

  • Ability to supervise and lead technicians in a shop or field service environment.

  • Strong skills in coordinating repairs, maintenance activities, and service scheduling.

  • Capability to perform and oversee inspections of diesel equipment to ensure safe and reliable operation.

  • Valid driver’s license.

  • Willingness and ability to work a 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. shift with additional on-call hours on a weekly or monthly basis.

  • Ability to perform heavy lifting and labor-intensive tasks in a primarily outdoor environment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in a production, shop supervision, or service management role.

  • Strong management and leadership skills to guide, coach, and develop technicians.

  • Comfort working both in a shop setting and on customer or field sites.

  • OSHA 10 safety training is beneficial; OSHA training will be provided if not already obtained.

Work Environment

This role operates primarily outdoors, with frequent work in and around heavy diesel equipment in a shop setting and on-site locations. The work is physically demanding and labor-intensive, involving heavy lifting and hands-on mechanical tasks. Standard hours are 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with additional on-call responsibilities on a weekly or monthly rotation. You will split time between the shop and field environments, working closely with technicians in active service areas where safety, awareness, and proper use of tools and equipment are essential.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Kansas City, MO.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $40.00/hr.
