HNTB Senior Aviation Project Manager in Kansas City, Missouri

The successful candidate will have expertise in one or more of the following aviation planning disciplines: landside, terminal, airside, economics, or environmental. The Senior Project Manager will be responsible for partnering with team members to track, pursue, win, and deliver projects. This position can be located at any of HNTB's office locations.

This opportunity entails being responsible managing assigned project(s) throughout their full lifecycle including developing the scope and technical sections of proposal and procurement documents to participating in contract negotiations and overseeing the delivery of the project plan to successfully accomplish HNTB’s 4 for 4 performance: delivery of quality work, on time, on budget and to the client’s satisfaction on every project. This position proactively manages the budget, schedule, technical requirements, contractual obligations, and client communications in support of the project’s objectives. The Sr Project Manager – Planning is typically responsible for management of project team(s) for one or more mini-mega ($1M to <$5M) projects or mega ($5M to < $25M) projects or may lead or serve in a key discipline lead role on a super mega (> $25M) project management team.
What You'll Do:
Responsible for development of the project scope and fee quotation and assists in the preparation of technical proposals and contracts in accordance with HNTB's Sophisticated Contracting Approach (SCA).
Serves as the primary client liaison and manages the project team to deliver the scope, schedule, and budgets to completion and to the client’s satisfaction. Leads client contract scoping and negotiations.
Leads and prepares design documents, technical plans, and written reports on projects.
Implements the firm’s project delivery plan using HNTB's Sophisticated Delivery Approach (SDA) on each project. Leads the development and the execution of the project management plan. Supervises and mentors team to overall project objectives.
Responsible for/oversees project staffing, including, but not limited to; recruitment, hiring, development, retention, and succession of project staff; development of plan for project staff reporting; and support for performance and compensation reviews.
Partners with Client Service Leaders and pursuit champions to assist with business development, building client relationships and pursuit efforts for mega and super mega projects in accordance with HNTB's Sophisticated Sales Approach (SSA). Works with the project team and marketing resources to prepare appropriate proposal and presentation materials. Leads proposal development and interview presentations for mini-mega, mega or super mega projects to the client as well as general presentations within the industry and community.
May be responsible for the recruitment, hiring, development and retention of staff, including development of plan for staff reporting, performance and compensation reviews, and succession.
Typically responsible for management of project team(s) for one or more mini-mega ($1M to <$5M) projects or mega ($5M to < $25M) projects, or may lead or serve in a key discipline lead role on a super mega (> $25M) project management team.
Performs other duties as assigned.
What You'll Need:
Bachelor's degree in Planning, Landscape Architecture, Urban Design, Engineering, Geology, Biology, Environmental Science, Anthropology, Archaeology, or related field and 12 years relevant experience
4 years of successful management of projects
What You'll Bring:
Directs and oversees technical work for a wide variety of multidisciplinary airport planning and preliminary design projects.
Leads capacity analyses for airport facilities.
Prepares technical reports for airport planning studies.
Interprets and oversees airport simulation models.
Highly responsive to client requests.
Prepares stakeholder and public presentations.
Builds and maintains client and other consultant relationships.
Maintains a pipeline of opportunities and supports the success
Assists with business development activities including proposal preparation and interviews.
Mentors junior and mid-level staff.
Be an expert in one or more key aviation planning disciplines (e.g. Landside, Terminal, Airside, Land Use, Airspace)
What We Prefer:
Bachelor’s/Master’s Degree in Aviation Management, Urban Planning, Civil Engineering, Architecture, or related field and 15 years of experience.
Extensive airport planning experience at large hub airports.
Project Management experience with a focus on profitability.
Strong understanding of the aviation industry.
Excellent written, verbal, and graphical communication skills.
Someone who shares our commitment to delivering extraordinary client service.
Experience serving multiple clients simultaneously across several time zones.
Demonstrated record of winning and delivering aviation planning work at large- and medium-hub airports.
Excellent industry relationships with clients and other consultants.
