Burns & McDonnell Mechanical Engineer - Water/Wastewater Treatment Facilities (Kansas City) in Kansas City, Missouri
Description
The Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for process HVAC design, plumbing design, mechanical equipment selection, and the preparation of specifications, drawings, and shop drawing reviews for water and wastewater treatment facility projects throughout the United States. The role includes developing equipment data sheets, RFQs, technical bid summaries, and purchase recommendations, as well as reviewing mechanical equipment submittals, vendor drawings, and technical data. The engineer will interface with suppliers, clients, multidisciplinary engineering teams, and designers/detailers, while also preparing construction and installation scopes of work for mechanical systems. Additional responsibilities include contributing to the development of P&IDs, construction specifications, project schedules, project budgets, staffing plans, and overall construction planning.
Perform mechanical design of projects from the conceptual phase through design completion.
Develop mechanical design concepts for HVAC and Plumbing
Contribute Basis of Design Reports for Water and Wastewater infrastructure projects.
Design mechanical components for project needs and requirements that are set forth by the project managers.
Apply strong knowledge of commonly used mechanical engineering/design concepts, principles, practices, codes, and procedures within the mechanical engineering services industry.
Research and compile project related data as required by the project managers.
Provide updates to project managers on design progress.
Collaborate with mechanical team and mentor junior engineers.
Direct designers and CAD technicians for drawing markups.
Compile information for client presentations.
Perform field inspections, measurements or calculations for public and private clients.
Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications
Bachelor Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related degree from an ABET accredited program. and 3 years of mechanical engineering experience required, consulting experience preferred.
Bachelor Degree in Mechanical or related Engineering Technology from an ABET accredited program and successful completion of Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam and 3 years of mechanical engineering experience required, consulting experience preferred.
Master Degree in Mechanical Engineering and 2 years of mechanical engineering experience required, consulting experience preferred.
Strong knowledge in standard engineering techniques and procedures.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment and demonstrated critical thinking skills.
Proficient in standard engineering techniques and procedures.
Strong computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite)
Strong computer skills include AutoCAD, BIM (Revit), 3D Rendering Programs, hydraulic analysis, and HVAC analysis programs.
Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization and problem-solving skills.
Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
This job posting will remain open a minimum of 72 hours and on an ongoing basis until filled.
