Job Title: Construction Laborer

Job Description

The Construction Laborer supports concrete, masonry, and general commercial construction projects by performing a wide range of manual labor tasks. This role prepares work areas, handles materials and equipment, and helps maintain a safe, clean, and efficient job site while working both independently and as part of a crew in varying field conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Perform a variety of manual labor tasks on concrete, masonry, and general construction projects.

  • Prepare surfaces and work areas for concrete placement, including basic site preparation and cleanup.

  • Shovel, place, and spread concrete in designated construction areas as directed.

  • Assist with general labor duties that may not be directly related to concrete, supporting multiple departments as needed.

  • Handle and store construction materials safely and efficiently.

  • Load and unload trucks, and haul or hoist materials to designated locations on the job site.

  • Use hand tools and power tools to support forming, framing, and other construction activities.

  • Follow safety procedures at all times, including the proper use of personal protective equipment.

  • Maintain a clean and organized job site by picking up tools, equipment, and debris and securing the site at the end of each day.

  • Follow proper incident reporting procedures and support a culture of safety on the job site.

  • Read and use basic measurements, such as with a tape measure, to complete assigned tasks.

  • Work independently to complete daily activities according to the work schedule and instructions provided.

  • Communicate effectively with supervisors and team members regarding task status, safety issues, and material needs.

Essential Skills

  • At least 1 year of experience in general labor, concrete construction, or commercial construction.

  • Some knowledge of the proper use of equipment, materials, and supplies used in concrete and masonry construction.

  • Some knowledge of first aid principles and applicable construction safety precautions.

  • Ability to use hand tools and power tools safely and effectively in a construction environment.

  • Ability to read and use a tape measure and follow basic measurements on the job.

  • Ability to work independently and complete daily tasks according to a set work schedule.

  • Ability to lift up to 75 pounds and perform strenuous physical labor, including squatting and kneeling.

  • Ability to walk and stand for long periods of time, including on uneven terrain between buildings.

  • Ability to work under adverse field conditions, including varying weather and indoor/outdoor environments.

  • Ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing with supervisors and team members.

  • Understanding of basic construction processes such as forming and framing.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • OSHA 10 certification.

  • Experience with concrete construction, including placing and finishing support tasks.

  • Experience in commercial construction environments.

  • Familiarity with reading or interpreting basic blueprints or construction drawings.

  • Experience operating construction equipment under supervision.

  • Demonstrated reliability and strong work ethic in a field or construction setting.

Work Environment

This role is fully field-based and involves working both indoors and outdoors on active construction sites. You work in a variety of weather conditions and must be comfortable standing and walking for extended periods, including on uneven terrain between buildings. The position requires frequent lifting of materials up to 75 pounds and regular squatting or kneeling to complete tasks. You will rotate through a variety of departments and tasks depending on project needs. Safety is a priority, and you will use standard construction equipment, hand tools, and power tools daily. Appropriate personal protective equipment is required at all times, including steel-toe footwear, a hard hat, and safety glasses.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Kansas City, KS.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $21.00 - $21.00/hr.
