The Queen's Health System Speech Language Pathologist - Kohala Home Health (Big Island, Call-In, Days) in Kamuela, Hawaii
RESPONSIBILITIES
I. JOB SUMMARY/RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Screens, evaluates and treats patients who demonstrate disorders of speech, language, cognition, and/or swallowing.
• Participates as an integral member of the Home Health Team.
II. TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
• Seeing, hearing, speaking, sitting and finger dexterity.
• Continuous: standing and walking.
• Frequent: twisting body, pushing/pulling maximum weight up to 50 pounds of force, stooping/bending, squatting, reaching above and at shoulder level, reaching below shoulder, repetitive arm/hand motions, gripping of an object.
• Occasional: kneeling, climbing stairs, lifting usual weight up to 10 pounds, carrying maximum weight of 10 pounds.
III. TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
• Not substantially subjected to adverse environmental conditions.
• Occasional exposure to safety hazards, diseases, or contamination.
• Exposure to body fluids and wastes; hazards from electrical.
• Works with mechanical/power equipment; subjected to injury from moving parts of equipment.
• May perform emergency care.
• Subjected to many interruptions and variables throughout the day.
• Required Personal Protective Equipment: Eye protection, gown, mask, non-sterile or sterile medical gloves, booties and bonnet.
• Must have access to a motor vehicle. Meets and complies with qualifications set forth in QNHCH Fleet/Motor Vehicle Policy.
IV. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
A. EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURE:
• Current Hawaii State license as a Speech Language Pathologist.
• Current American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) certification.
• Completion of a Flexible Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallow (FEES) or Modified Barium Swallow (MBS) course.
• Valid U.S. driver’s license required in accordance with Hawaii state law rules and regulations.
• Driver’s abstract or evidence of good driving record.
• Current BLS certification.
B. EXPERIENCE:
• Prior Speech Language Pathologist experience preferred.
• Experience in home healthcare preferred.
• Prior FEES or MBS clinical experience preferred.
• Experience with adult swallowing, communication, and cognitive evaluation and treatment preferred.
• Experience to demonstrate the following:
o Knowledge and skills to provide care appropriate to age of patients served.
o Knowledge of state and federal guidelines/regulations.
o Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.
o Strong organization and planning skills: anticipate tasks/prioritize assignments; manage multiple projects, varying schedule and clinical load.
