Genentech Head - Global CMO Clinical Packaging Management in Kaiseraugst, Switzerland

The Production Enablement function ensures that packaging operations can produce material required by Roche’s clinical trials seamlessly, on-time, and while optimizing cost/quality. Leaders within the Production Enablement group, have global leadership of one or more functional chapters and or leadership of local communities.

The CMO Management lead will be responsible for full oversight of outsourced clinical packaging in the Roche Clinical Supply portfolio, including ownership of the outsourcing business processes and contract manufacturer performance. Key responsibilities within the CMO team include setting outsourcing strategy; vendor selection, negotiation and contracting; supplier relationship management (SRM); outsourced supply setup coordination; and production execution oversight.

The Opportunity:

Global Leadership of Functional Chapters and Local Communities:

  • Own overall team performance and delivery of functional/Production Enablement goals, including KPI development, resource planning, hiring, and performance management.

  • Lead and develop teams by setting vision, enabling growth (4 C’s: Capabilities, Connections, Career, Contributions), coaching in an agile environment, and building future-ready capabilities.

  • Foster a strong, compliant, and collaborative culture by ensuring GMP/GCP/PQS standards, promoting self-managed teams, removing roadblocks, and building community and cross-functional relationships.

Leadership Team Membership:

  • Serve as a member of the PTDS extended leadership team and Production Enablement leadership team, contributing to overall organizational direction.

  • Co-shape strategy and drive alignment across PTDS and PE, while promoting knowledge sharing and cross-functional collaboration.

  • Model leadership behaviors by fostering a culture of trust, accountability, safety, and adherence to Roche leadership principles.

Function-Specific Accountabilities:

  • Influence outsourcing strategy, including make vs. buy decisions, vendor selection, and participation in CD&OP processes.

  • Manage external manufacturing partnerships by ensuring vendor capability, capacity, performance, and continuous innovation awareness.

  • Maintain financial oversight of external manufacturing spend and set performance expectations for contract manufacturing organizations (CMOs).

Who you are:

  • Degree (BA, MS, MBA), preferably in a technical, business or supply chain field

  • 10+ years operational experience in Supply Chain/Planning and/or manufacturing, or equivalent experience in the Pharma/Life Sciences industry

  • 5+ years of management experience, ideally in a cross-cultural or cross-functional setting

  • APICS and/or SCOR certification, or equivalent relevant experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in agile organizational models and leadership styles preferred

  • Significant experience in pharmaceutical clinical supply chain and/or pharma clinical manufacturing strongly preferred

  • PMP/Operational Excellence/Six Sigma/Lean training a plus

Relocation benefits are not available for this posting

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of California is $140,400 - $260,800. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance. This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below.
