Major/Essential Functions:
This position involves experience and expertise in a variety of areas: (1) ability to oversee and implement evidence-based curriculum and programming in science and STEM content areas for K-12 populations; (2) experience as a certified teacher in the state of Texas with demonstrated experience in teaching in science and STEM related content areas; (3) experience working with school districts to promote programming for students and professional development for teachers; (4) oversight, supervision, and mentoring of teachers implementing curriculum at the OLL; and (5) credentials to teach online courses as a lecturer in areas related to engagement.

Familiarity with evidence-based curriculum.
Prior experience in outdoor learning environments.
Administrative experience in oversight of programming.
A Master of Science or a master’s degree in a related field.
Experience teaching science and STEM curriculum in K-12.
Demonstrated experience working with teachers and school districts.
Five years’ experience with a current teacher certification.

About the Department and/or College:
The Office of the Provost in Outreach and Engagement seeks applicants for a Director of the Outdoor Learning Lab (OLL) and Lecturer for a full-time, 12-month position as a lecturer to begin June 1, 2026, at Texas Tech University, Junction Education and Conference Center. This position requires an active and current teaching certification in the state of Texas and experience in K-12 programming related to science and STEM. In addition, this position requires demonstration of experience working with teachers and districts. The director will also hold a position as a lecturer in Outreach and Engagement, Office of the Provost at Texas Tech and a master’s degree is required. The position is assigned to online teaching and these courses are offered asynchronously.
The Office of Outreach and Engagement TTU Office of Outreach and Engagement was established to provide innovative, collaborative and strategic leadership and support for the university’s strategic priority of engagement with communities across the region, state, nation and the world . Engagement includes members of the university and the community working together to address a community need or pressing societal issue. The units included in the Office of Outreach and Engagement include the Ranching Heritage Center, the Museum of Texas Tech, the TTU Press, the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute, and TTU Center at Junction. The Texas Tech Center at Junction (https://www.depts.ttu.edu/junction/about/) is home to the Outdoor Learning Lab, existing since 1971, and encompasses more than 400 acres. There is an emphasis on natural resource and watershed engagement, research and literacy and environmental education in the Texas Hill Country. The mission of this Center is to encourage, conduct and coordinate basic and applied research projects as well as engaging K-12 students in research activities grounded in teacher professional development.
