Job Title: Electronics Assembler – Cable and Wire Harness

Job Description

This role focuses on building complex cable and wire harness assemblies to support customer orders. You will assemble cables and copper wire, follow detailed work instructions, and use production aids and testing equipment to ensure every harness meets quality and performance standards.

Responsibilities

  • Assemble complex wire cables and harnesses according to work instructions and production documentation.

  • Lay out formal harnesses on form boards, cut wire and cable to specified lengths, and route wires between multiple connectors.

  • Strip wire insulation using hand tools and semi-automatic stripping machines, ensuring clean and accurate strip lengths.

  • Crimp inserts, pins, contacts, and terminals onto single wires and multi-conductor cables using hand crimpers and other tools.

  • Apply various types of tubing, including shrink sleeves, to wires and cables and use preset heat tools and foot pedals to shrink tubing along the full length as required.

  • Use production aids such as form boards and harness testers to verify correct wire routing and terminations.

  • Perform continuity checks using probes and test equipment to confirm that wires are connected to the correct positions within connectors.

  • Follow IPC-620 standards and internal quality requirements when building and inspecting cable assemblies.

  • Use small hand tools such as wire cutters, wire strippers, crimpers, and micrometers safely and accurately.

  • Work with solder sleeves as needed, following instructions even when a soldering iron is not required.

  • Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and wiring diagrams to complete assemblies correctly.

  • Inspect work visually and, when required, under a microscope to verify quality and accuracy of terminations and assemblies.

  • Maintain a clean and organized work area in a production environment and follow all safety and quality procedures.

  • Collaborate with team members and production staff to meet daily and weekly output goals.

Essential Skills

  • At least 1 year of electronics assembly experience, preferably in cable or wire harness assembly.

  • Hands-on experience with electronic or electrical assembly work.

  • Ability to read and follow detailed work instructions, blueprints, and wiring diagrams.

  • Proficiency in using small hand tools such as wire cutters, wire strippers, hand crimpers, and basic measuring tools.

  • Experience with wire harness assembly and cable assembly processes.

  • Basic understanding of electrical connections, wiring, and circuit continuity.

  • Ability to perform repetitive assembly tasks with accuracy and attention to detail.

  • Comfort working with production aids such as form boards and test fixtures.

  • Strong focus on quality and adherence to established standards such as IPC-620.

  • Ability to work 10-hour shifts starting at 5:00 or 6:00 a.m., Monday through Thursday, with additional hours on Fridays as needed.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • IPC-620 certification is preferred and considered a strong asset.

  • Soldering experience is a plus, including familiarity with soldering techniques and solder sleeves.

  • Experience with electronic assembly, electrical assembly, and circuit board work.

  • Ability to interpret schematics and production drawings.

  • Familiarity with using micrometers and other precision measurement tools.

  • Experience working under a microscope for detailed inspection is beneficial.

  • Background in production or manufacturing environments, particularly electronics manufacturing.

  • Comfort using wire assembly tools, wire strippers, and related equipment in a high-precision setting.
