Job Description
A client of Insight Global is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Site Layout Design Engineer with experience in rail systems (ideally) to support the planning and integration of infrastructure and system components across rail project sites. This role involves developing preliminary site layouts, coordinating with cross-functional teams, and ensuring alignment with system requirements and construction constraints.
Key Responsibilities:
• Develop site layouts tailored to rail system requirements.
• Analyze and incorporate system components such as grounding, sensor integration, and conduit routing.
• Assess available site dimensions, access zones, safety buffers, and proximity to existing infrastructure including power sources, communication lines, and rail corridors.
• Evaluate topography and ground conditions to identify potential layout constraints.
• Identify and mitigate interference risks with existing systems (e.g., drainage, signaling, cable troughs).
• Plan for future expansion and integration with adjacent rail projects.
• Create preliminary utility routing plans including conduit paths, grounding rods, and Wabtec system placments.
• Collaborate with civil, service, and installation teams to communicate layout plans and ensure alignment.
• Coordinate with stakeholders to support construction sequencing and installation planning.

Skills and Requirements
Experience in site planning and layout design for rail or transportation infrastructure.
• Ability to visualize and sketch basic site configurations.
• Proficiency in 2D and 3D design tools such as SolidWorks, AutoCAD, IronCAD; strong understanding of spatial relationships between components.
• Excellent documentation and communication skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively across engineering, civil, and construction teams. Preferred Qualifications:
• Degree in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
• Knowledge of grading, drainage, and soil conditions specific to rail environments.
• Familiarity with rail system components and integration requirements.
• Understanding of construction sequencing and constraints (e.g., rail tie installation prior to concrete pour).
• Experience with rail infrastructure projects and associated regulatory standards.
