Emory Healthcare/Emory University Lead Sleep Technologist in Johns Creek, Georgia

Description

  • Provides supervision of technology staff at multiple locations.

  • Performs multiple sleep latency testing and scoring of nocturnal complex polysomnography and multiple sleep latency test.

  • Operates polysomnographic recording equipment used to record and evaluate sleep/wake pathology, including transcutaneous and End-Tidal CO2 monitoring.

  • Scores polysomnographic recordings in preparation for physician interpretation.

  • Performs research studies per protocol which may include full 10/20 EEGs and assisting with writing research protocol.

  • Performs related patient processing and documentation procedures as necessary.

  • Applies and removes electrodes and other equipment used in conjunction with polysomnography including EKG, EMG, EOG, airflow, and oximetry in clinic patients.

  • Fits and troubleshoots PAP masks to optimize comfort and effectiveness.

  • Applies and titrates CPAP, BiPAP, Adaptive Servo Ventilation (ASV), AVAPS/iVAPS AVAPS AE titrations and need for /application of supplemental oxygen based on physicians' orders and established protocols.

  • Preferred experience in advanced titrations and interpretation of patient tidal volume and need for pressure support in advanced disease patients such as those with chronic respiratory insufficiency, chronic respiratory failure, chronic hypoventilation including neuromuscular disease and COPD.

  • Instructs patients in the proper application and usage of ambulatory equipment.

  • Downloads recording from ambulatory unit and prepares machine for the next usage.

  • Fits and troubleshoots PAP masks to optimize comfort and effectiveness.

  • Assists in training of all new sleep fellows and technical staff.

  • Meets with vendors regarding new equipment developed for sleep medicine.

  • Oversees scoring of and makes necessary corrections to ambulatory sleep recordings done by technologist.

  • Instructs Sleep Disorder Center staff on new equipment and proper protocols for usage of equipment.

  • Performs other duties as required.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint is strongly recommended.

  • Equipment and Supplies: Responsible for communicating supply needs and ordering supplies and equipment. Operates and calibrates polysomnographic equipment.

  • Professional Development: Works with manager to formulate plan for professional development. Attends educational in-services as appropriate

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree and two years' experience or High School graduate with five years' experience in sleep field as a technologist.

  • Must be a Registered Polysomnographic Technologist.

  • A current BLS certification is required.

  • Safety, Security and Health: Cleans and disinfects equipment placed directly on patients.

  • Monitors for adverse events in patients and acts accordingly and per protocol.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS (Medium): 20-50 lbs.; 0-33% of the work day (occasionally); 11-25 lbs., 34-66% of the workday (frequently); 01-10 lbs., 67-100% of the workday (constantly); Lifting 50 lbs. max; Carrying of objects up to 25 lbs.; Occasional to frequent standing & walking, Occasional sitting, Close eye work (computers, typing, reading, writing), Physical demands may vary depending on assigned work area and work tasks

Environmental exposures include, but are not limited to: Blood-borne pathogen exposure Bio-hazardous waste Chemicals/gases/fumes/vapors Communicable diseases Electrical shock , Floor Surfaces, Hot/Cold Temperatures, Indoor/Outdoor conditions, Latex, Lighting, Patient care/handling injuries, Radiation , Shift work, Travel may be required. Use of personal protective equipment, including respirators, environmental conditions may vary depending on assigned work area and work tasks
