PURPOSE OF POSITION
The Data & Decision Science (DDS) Software & Business Specialist will be responsible for utilizing their analytical and technical development skills and experience to collect, clean, analyse, interpret large and/or unstructured data sets and present that in a data solution protocol or visualisation, along with being responsible for designing, automating, and delivering scalable data pipelines, analytics solutions, and business reporting assets that enable Data & Decision Science (DDS) to deliver high-quality, insight-driven outcomes to customers and internal stakeholders.
The role operates across the full data lifecycle — from ingestion, validation, automation, and modelling through to advanced analytics, reporting, and decision support — with a strong focus on automation, software engineering best practice, and business value realisation.
The Data & Decision Science (DDS) Software & Business Specialist will also be required to understand and analyse client data or information as well as observe internally any data related issues and apply corrective measures that are aligned with data management best practices.
DDS is a strategic function and as such the individual must not only understand the strategic direction that the company wants to progress in but must be able to develop or contribute to the development of a DDS strategy and must be able to manage the delivery of this strategic intent.
The individual will also be responsible for assisting and supporting the other DDS Members and ultimately the Group Commercial and Industrial, DDS Executive in participating in operational or other strategies to monetise data and information by finding ways to leverage existing enterprise data and information in GVR MEA’s products and services.
The intricacies of this role require broad knowledge beyond just technical know-how – and the individual will be required to demonstrate excellent knowledge, conceptualisation & understanding of Data Analysis, BI development and Data best practices and how it applies to the business’ we service, how it can be used to solve customer problems, and how the technical aspects and outcomes of DDS information products can be easily explained in a business-friendly language or graphic.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Data Automation & Engineering
Design, build, and maintain automated data pipelines using Python, SQL, and analytics engineering principle
Automate recurring BAU reporting and data processes to reduce manual effort and operational risk
Implement data quality checks, exception handling, and monitoring frameworks
Apply software engineering best practices including version control, testing, and documentation
Reporting & Advanced Analytics
Develop automated and self-service reporting solutions using Power BI
Build and optimise DAX measures and semantic data model
Produce executive dashboards, operational reports, and analytical insights
Perform trend analysis, anomaly detection, and performance benchmarking
Business & Decision Support
Translate business requirements into scalable data and analytics solutions
Partner with operational and commercial stakeholders to drive data-led decisions
Deliver insight-driven narratives and recommendations to customers and leadership
Continuous Improvement & Innovation
• Identify opportunities to improve DDS efficiency through automation and tooling
• Prototype new analytics methods and technologies aligned to DDS strategy
• Contribute to the evolution of DDS data products and platforms
Governance & Quality Assurance
• Ensure all solutions adhere to governance, security, and compliance standards
• Maintain documentation and artefacts in Vontier SharePoint
• Apply QA processes across data pipelines and reporting outputs
Other Responsibilities
• Investigate new automated mechanisms to monitor data daily diagnostics in terms of data quality, exceptions, completion and accuracy and alter diagnostic scripting accordingly
• Have internal GVR MEA interactions when required to keep abreast of our changing and evolving data assets and landscape so that DDS data management & solutions can be aligned
• Identify key challenges or business issues within DDS and the greater GVR MEA to pave the way for innovative technical and data solutions
• Take customer requirements as received from commercial team and draft a customer-specific value proposition to assist in the technical close of the deal
• Engage with customer on value offering and iterate solution strategy to meet customers’ needs
• Ensure all developed work is documented and stored on Vontier SharePoint: detailing proposed solutions which are tracked and comprehensively documented and updated to Vontier SharePoint so that all successes and failures can be used as reference material for any new development work
• Conduct multidimensional analysis to fully understand the client business issue(s) and then test best-fit solutions and dispense insight driven DDS products
• Build robust data structures and products that are industry-agnostic
• Adhere to good governance, risk and compliance within the DDS management function and within the broader GVR MEA’s governance standards
• Ensure Quality Assurance processes and checks are in place for all work outputs
• Manage, build and/or improve on the DDS reporting, analytics and data exploration capabilities.
• Partake in Bi-annual performance appraisals: For self where development plans can be discussed and documented with your manager. For subordinates where their individual development plans are discussed and documented with you as their manager

• Is part of the DDS team and will be required to interact successfully at all levels internally.

PERSONAL QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
Education/achievements
Degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Information Technology, or related field.
3+ years’ experience in data analytics, data engineering, BI development, or analytics engineering.
Proven experience delivering automated reporting and analytics solutions.
Strong ability to bridge technical delivery and business outcomes
A master’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, Data Engineering or Data Management
Experience/Knowledge
Experience in managing a team or being accountable for delivery where other team members have responsibilities
A minimum of 5 years of progressive responsible experience in a directly related area, during which technical, analysis rapport has been established as a Data professional.
Extensive experience in the Data, Analysis, Business Intelligence (Analysis and developer) space as Data professional.
Demonstrated Experience in Influencing and directing conversations with others through storyboard telling
Experience in Navigating known-unknowns as well as unknown-unknowns in a data trend/relationship at a technical level
Technical skills:
Extensive expertise in Microsoft data management technologies coupled with extensive expertise in data modelling, both logical and physical (Technologies: SSIS, SSRS, SSAS, Power BI)
Extensive experience in multidimensional data modelling, such as star schemas, snowflakes, de-normalized models, handling “slow changing” dimensions/attributes.
Experience in optimising queries and storprocs
Extensive Experience in large and structured or unstructured data sets
Experience in Cloud technologies
Experience in Database Administration and Management functions
Experience and understanding of a wide variety of analytical processes (governance, measurement, etc.).
Experience with relational - SQL – and/or multidimensional - MDX - query languages
A deep understanding of Data Analysis and BI Development and their application in relation to DDS
A solid understanding of data security and privacy technologies
A solid understanding of key Data solutions trends.
