Job Title: Controls Engineer

Job Description

The Controls Engineer is responsible for traveling to customer sites to program, commission, and start up equipment. Initially, all parts of the machinery are received at the plant in Jeffersonville, where they are built, wired, and programmed. After performing Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), the equipment is disassembled and sent to the customer site. Once installation is complete, the Controls Engineer commissions the equipment, modifies code as per customer requests, and carries out integration, troubleshooting, and on-site testing.

Responsibilities

  • Operate computer systems to manage and control equipment.

  • Create detailed electrical schematics.

  • Collaborate with technical personnel to prepare designs or operational plans.

  • Discuss designs or plans with clients to ensure alignment with their requirements.

  • Maintain electronic equipment to ensure optimal performance.

  • Direct equipment maintenance or repair activities.

  • Oversee installation activities to guarantee proper setup.

  • Prepare operational and development reports.

  • Investigate system, equipment, or product failures to identify and resolve issues.

  • Estimate technical or resource requirements for development or production projects.

  • Program PLCs according to customer functional specifications.

  • Troubleshoot and debug PLC programs.

  • Program HMIs according to customer specifications.

Essential Skills

  • PLC programming and troubleshooting expertise.

  • Experience with Rockwell and Allen Bradley systems.

  • Proficiency in Controls Engineering.

  • Ability to use structured text for programming.

  • Experience with packaging equipment and machinery.

  • 2-3+ years of experience in Controls Engineering.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with PanelView systems.

  • Ability to work with diverse packaging equipment for large customers.

Work Environment

This role involves extensive travel within the US and internationally to Europe, Mexico, and Canada. Training will occur in Jeffersonville, IN, where the engineer will learn about various machinery used for tasks such as sleeve wrapping, drying, pouches, steaming, and labeling. The position does not require residency in Louisville/Southern Indiana, but the candidate must be able to travel to Jeffersonville for training. The typical schedule includes traveling on Mondays, working on-site from Tuesday to Friday, and sometimes staying over weekends for extended projects. The company provides a credit card, phone, and a $65 per day per diem. Additional opportunities include overtime and bonus pay for weekend stays.
