Maintenance Mechanic I

Location: Jamestown, NY

Salary Range: $17.00 - $24.24/hour (based on experience)

Full-Time | Non-Exempt

Lutheran Social Services is seeking a Maintenance Mechanic I to support the upkeep and safety of our campus and properties. If you enjoy hands-on work, problem-solving, and being part of a team that makes a difference every day, we encourage you to apply!

Position Summary

Under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor, the Maintenance Mechanic I performs general maintenance, repair, and project work related to electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and structural systems across the Lutheran campus.

What You’ll Do

  • Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on electrical, mechanical, and building systems

  • Maintain heating, cooling, and ventilation systems

  • Complete general repairs (fixtures, surfaces, minor roof repairs, painting, glass installation)

  • Install and repair locks, keys, and hardware

  • Assist with snow removal and groundskeeping

  • Support campus events (setup/teardown of tables, chairs, etc.)

  • Respond to maintenance emergencies across campus

  • Maintain accurate records using maintenance systems

  • Assist with trash removal, linen transport, and general facility support

  • Work with and learn from senior maintenance staff to build skills

    What We’re Looking For

  • High school diploma or equivalent (or 5+ years of relevant experience) required

  • At least 2 years of experience in a related trade preferred

  • Trade school or vocational training a plus

  • Valid NYS driver’s license with a clean driving record

  • Ability to communicate effectively in English (verbal and written)

  • Willingness to learn, grow, and take on new maintenance skills

    Work Environment & Physical Requirements

  • Work indoors and outdoors in varying conditions

  • Regular standing, lifting (up to 100 lbs), climbing, and bending

  • Use of hand and power tools, equipment, and safety gear

  • Schedule may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed
