Weber Knapp Company Machine Operator in Jamestown, New York
Job Summary:
This is a 2nd shift machine operator position that will be required to safely adjust and operate various machines and equipment involved in production.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- None.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Operates production machinery in accordance with prints and specifications. Assigned machines may include lathes, grinders, mills, primary punch presses, secondary presses, press brakes, slitter, router, robotic welder, and similar equipment.
- Produces the required quantity of parts within established specifications and tolerances.
- Measures finished parts with precision tools, ensuring compliance with function, quality, and cosmetic specifications.
- Inspects equipment prior to use to ensure proper setup and alignment; performs basic and routine adjustments and maintenance.
- Maintains a clean, safe, and orderly work area.
- Reads and interprets calipers, micrometers, and blueprints.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Ability to follow directions and work well in a team.
- Ability to interpret and translate engineering designs and documentation.
- Thorough understanding of or the ability to quickly learn production equipment.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and good basic math skills.
- Understanding of and the ability to abide by applicable OSHA and environmental regulations.
- Ability to read blueprints and various measuring tools including calipers and micrometers.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment in adapting setups.
- Must work well independently and in a team environment.
- Must be able to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Ability to communicate and work with people in office, factory, and inspection as required.
- Must be safety oriented.
- Ability to maintain correct tolerances and quality specifications.
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- At least one year of related experience preferred.
- Completion of on-the-job training may be substituted for educational requirements.
- Machining experience or certificate is a plus.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods working on feet, using tools, and performing repetitive actions that entail frequent bending and stooping.
- Prolonged periods of standing, pushing, pulling, lifting, and carrying materials.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at a time.
- Visual acuity to read instructions, operate machines, and inspect parts produced.
- Must wear safety glasses.
