Overview
Job Purpose
The Infrastructure Solutions Architecture (ISA) group at Intercontinental Exchange (ICE) is a cross-disciplined team that takes a full stack view on solution development. This team participates in the definition of high-level functional and non-functional requirements, analyzes technical trade-offs, decomposes major components and subsystems, and helps define the interfaces, collaborations, and dependencies between them.
The role of an ISA Lead Engineer is responsible for accelerating innovation and fostering broader awareness and adoption of disruptive and differentiating technologies.
The ISA team has the expertise to shape ground-breaking business products, material, and processes across the entire portfolio at ICE. The architects lead technology investigations and recommend solutions based on what they learn and foster understanding of our capabilities. Our insights influence product architecture and definitions. In cooperation with leadership, the ISA team plays a critical role to align teams in a common technical direction at ICE. This team represents a key element of the ICE technology governance process and embodies our goals for maintaining a high degree of standardization and quality in everything we do.
Responsibilities
Develop and define infrastructure standards along with reusable reference architecture patterns
Responsible for alignment with perimeter security architecture and design standards with business strategy, service delivery, and client and vendor relationships
Focus developing resilient infrastructure solutions with a focus on scalability, reliability, availability, performance, and security
Oversee the upkeep and consistency of our standards as expressed in Global Design Specifications annually
Partner closely with ISA Innovation and ISA Assurance teams to ensure they are aware of efforts underway to help maintain a feedback loop regarding new business requirements and challenges we have encountered
Maintain continued knowledge of the business and IT architecture principles to identify and evaluate alternatives solutions
Help identify gaps in current enterprise guiding principles and policies
Review plans, processes, and strategies to identify areas for improvement or update
Create/update Enterprise Architecture Guidance in the form of Design Patterns, Standards, and Implementation Guides
Partner closely with ICE Enterprise PMO to ensure solutions can be delivered on time and within budget
Create diagrams and documentation with all components that comprise IT systems including network topology with security measures and vulnerabilities
Analyze IT specifications to assess security risks
Design and implement safety measures and data recovery plans
Work closely with subject matter experts to develop and deliver complete architecture solutions
Provide governance recommendations for all existing cloud services and methodologies
Ensure that all logging and monitoring concerns are well understood and implemented according to regulations
Maintain continued education and certification in the relevant areas of expertise required of this role
Knowledge and Experience
Bachelor’s, master’s degree in computer science, software engineering, applied sciences or a related field
Extensive background in designing infrastructure architectures for global enterprises
Previous experience working in Network Architecture or Engineering
Experience with current generation workload hosting frameworks – RunAI, K8, RedHat OpenShift, Proxmox
Previous experience with automation leveraging Ansible, Terraform or equivalent technology
Previous experience working in a low-latency environment, such as the financial industry. Good knowledge of server operating systems and their TCP/IP stacks, Linux, and Windows
Demonstrated technical expertise and acumen of 5+ years in specialty fields (Systems – HW/OS, Storage, Security, Networking – L2/L3, Cloud (AWS / Azure / GCP)
Maintain strong hands-on technical expertise to facilitate proof of concept evaluations and foster collaboration with engineering teams
Experience in establishing and enforcing standards and practices
Ability to resolve complex issues in creative, efficient, and effective ways
Knowledgeable of architecture frameworks such as TOGAF/ITIL
Has experience in developing enterprise security design patterns, standards, and guidelines
Strong familiarity with networking, virtualization, and general IT systems
Broad knowledge of core information security principles, such as access control, least privilege and data integrity, along with security capabilities
Programming/Scripting Languages: Python, Perl, PowerShell
Knowledge of a product technology and system level integration
Previous experience in the domains of identity, authentication, and information security
Industry certification preferred (CISSP, CISA, GIAC, CCSP, Cloud provider certifications)
Technical security certifications are not required but considered an asset, such as CISSP, GCIH, GCIA, GCFA, GPEN, GCFE, CCNA, CCNP
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to conduct presentations to peers, cross- functional teams and director level of leadership
Experience in a DevSecOps environment
Understanding/Knowledge of global security frameworks and standards, such as NIST, CIS, FIPS
Illinois Base Salary Range
The expected base salary for this role, if located in Illinois, is between $133,900 – $154,500 USD. The base salary range does not include Intercontinental Exchange’s incentive compensation. While we provide this range as general guidance, at ICE we compensate employees based on the skillset and experience of the individual. Regular full-time ICE employees are eligible for a suite of competitive employee benefits, including healthcare coverage (medical, dental and vision), a 401(k) plan, life insurance, time off, and paid leave for qualifying circumstances.
