University of North Florida Assistant Director, Training Programs (Counseling Center) in Jacksonville, Florida

General Description / Primary Purpose

The Assistant Director of Training Programs serves as a member of the Counseling Centers leadership team and provides strategic oversight and operational leadership for all pre-degree training programs within the Center. In the absence of the Director of the Counseling Center, this position acts on behalf of the Senior Director within the executive chain of command.

Job Functions and Essential Duties

  1. Training Leadership and Program Development
  • Provide leadership, coordination, and administrative oversight for the Counseling Centers pre-degree training programs, including:

    • APA-accredited Doctoral Internship Program

    • Clinical Mental Health Counseling Training Program

    • Social Work Training Program

    • Nurse Practitioner Training Program

  • Ensure ongoing compliance with APA accreditation standards and all other applicable professional, ethical, and regulatory requirements.

  • Lead accreditation-relatedactivities, including program evaluation, data collection, documentation, annual reporting, and continuous quality improvement.

  • Direct the planning, implementation, and evaluation of training curricula, policies, and procedures.

  • Continue to expand and enhance training programs, including the development of structured mentorship and professional development opportunities

  • Collaborate with senior leadership to ensure training programs align with Counseling Center goals, institutional priorities, and best practices in mental health education.

  1. Clinical Services
  • Provide direct clinical services to students, including:

    • Intake interviews and comprehensive clinical assessments

    • Daytime crisis intervention and triage

    • Brief individual psychotherapy

    • Group psychotherapy

  • Serve as back-up support for the after-hours ProtoCall on-call service rotation as needed.

  • Maintain ethical, professional, and culturally responsive clinical practice consistent with licensure requirements, professional standards, and university policies.

  1. Supervision
  • Provide clinical supervision to pre-degree trainees and, as appropriate, professional staff in accordance with program requirements and professional standards.

  • Support the development of supervisors through consultation, mentorship, and guidance related to best practices in supervision and evaluation.

  • Contribute to trainee and supervisor performance evaluation processes, including competency assessment and feedback.

  • Recommend training-related improvements to leadership based on supervision outcomes and trainee needs.

  • Provides supervision for licensure as needed

  1. Outreach, Consultation, and Campus Collaboration
  • Participate in outreach, consultation, and community engagement efforts to support student mental health and well-being.

  • Serve as a liaison to campus partners, student leaders, and university stakeholders regarding training-related initiatives and mental health programming.

  • Provide culturally responsive public health-oriented prevention initiatives and psychoeducation.

  • Serve on campus-wide committees, task forces, or working groups as assigned.

  1. Marginal Functions
  • Participate in occasional evening or weekend outreach, consultation, or training-related activities.

  • Provide limited after-hours clinical support or consultation, primarily phone-based, during rare crisis situations.

  • During declared campus emergencies, perform assigned job-related duties from a designated off-campus location or place of residence in accordance with University continuity of operations plans.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Senior Director in support of Counseling Center operations.

Required Qualifications

Master's and 2+ years of relevant experience or Bachelor's degree and 4+ years of relevant experience. Or an equivale t combination of education and experience pursuant to Fla. Stat. 112.219.

This role requires advanced clinical expertise, demonstrated leadership skills, and a sustained commitment to the development, supervision, and evaluation of pre-degree mental health professionals across multiple disciplines. The Assistant Director of Training supports the Counseling Centers mission to provide high-quality, culturally responsive mental health services while advancing excellence in professional training, mentorship, and accreditation within a university setting.
