Position Overview

The Assistant Controller at Miller Electric serves as a key financial leader responsible for ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and compliance of the company’s financial reporting. This role oversees day‑to‑day accounting operations, drives a disciplined and timely monthly close process, and maintains strong internal controls to safeguard company assets. The Assistant Controller also plays a critical role in audit preparation and supports strategic financial initiatives that enhance operational efficiency and organizational performance.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Financial Close, Reporting and Consolidation

  • Own the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, including multi-entity consolidation and intercompany eliminations

  • Prepare and/or review journal entries, account reconciliations, and variance analyses to ensure completeness and accuracy.

  • Lead variance analysis versus budget/prior periods; provide drivers and narratives for management reporting.

  • Oversee the preparation and review of GAAP-compliant financial statements

Internal Controls & Compliance

  • Maintain and strengthen internal controls over financial reporting (ICFR), including SEC compliant documentation, testing coordination, remediation, and control optimization.

  • Update accounting policies and procedures; ensure consistent application across business units.

Audit Readiness

  • Assist with external auditors and internal audit for interim and year-end audits; prepare audit schedules and respond to PBC requests.

Operational Accounting Leadership

  • Oversee GL maintenance, revenue/cost accounting, fixed assets, inventory, lease accounting, and payroll interfaces; ensure accuracy of subledgers and integration to the GL.

  • Monitor and improve close calendar discipline, cut-offs, and materiality thresholds.

Team Leadership

  • Supervise, mentor, and develop staff accountants and set goals, provide feedback, and build succession pipelines.

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance.

Certification

  • Active CPA license required.

Experience

  • 7–10+ years of progressive accounting experience.

  • Experience with public‑company environments or Big Four/public accounting strongly preferred.

  • Deep knowledge of U.S. GAAP and financial reporting requirements.

Technical Skills

  • Proficiency with ERP systems and financial consolidation tools (e.g., OneStream).

  • Advanced Excel skills; experience with BI/reporting tools preferred.

  • Strong understanding of internal controls and audit processes.

Professional Skills

  • Exceptional attention to detail and strong analytical capabilities.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to collaborate effectively with internal stakeholders across departments.

  • Proven ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast‑paced, dynamic environment.
