POSITION SUMMARY
The Director of Technology provides strategic and operational leadership for all technology initiatives across Madison County Schools. This position oversees a 19-person IT department serving 13,000 students and 1,800 faculty and staff across 22 locations. The Director is responsible for setting the technology vision for the district, managing departmental staff, and ensuring that technology infrastructure, systems, and services support teaching, learning, and administrative operations effectively and securely.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Leadership & Strategy
Develop and implement a long-range technology plan aligned with district goals and instructional priorities
Lead, supervise, and evaluate department staff
Serve as the primary technology advisor to district leadership and the school board
Represent the district in state and regional technology organizations and initiatives
Infrastructure & Operations
Oversee the management of district-wide network infrastructure across all campuses
Ensure uptime, reliability, and security of all technology systems supporting district operations
Direct device management programs covering iPads, Mac, Chromebook, and Windows environments
Oversee physical security technology including door access control and camera systems
Manage and oversee Microsoft Azure and Google admin cloud systems
Oversee on prem AD and VMWare infrastructure
Security & Compliance
Ensure district compliance with FERPA, CIPA, and applicable state and federal technology regulations
Lead cybersecurity planning, incident response, and staff awareness efforts
Oversee content filtering systems and acceptable use policy enforcement
Manage disaster recovery planning and business continuity for technology systems
Budget & Vendor Management
Develop and manage the department technology budget
Evaluate, negotiate, and manage vendor contracts and service agreements
Oversee E-Rate application for technology funding opportunities
Instructional Technology
Collaborate with curriculum and instructional staff to align technology tools with teaching and learning goals
Support the Instructional Technology Manager in professional development planning and delivery
Organizational Development
Maintain and grow institutional knowledge documentation and IT knowledge base systems
Champion job shadow and cross-training programs to develop staff depth and continuity
Mentor department leaders and prepare next-generation leadership within the team
