Dixon Correctional Institute is seeking a dedicated and experienced Corrections Lieutenant to join our leadership team. This role is critical to maintaining the safety, security, and operational excellence of our facility. We are looking for a confident leader who can guide staff, uphold departmental standards, and foster a professional environment built on integrity and accountability.

Minimum Qualifications

Two years of experience in a correctional, behavioral, or penal institution with responsibility for the security, custody, rehabilitation, or classification of offenders, or in law enforcement or security plus one of the following:

  1. Possession of a high school diploma or GED; OR

  2. One year of experience in any field; OR

  3. Six months of law enforcement experience as a POST certified peace officer.

    NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

    An applicant who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence or a felony, or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted.

    In accordance with the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) (Part 115:17) of Title 28 of the Code of Federal Regulations an applicant who has been found to have engaged in any form of sexual abuse; engaged in sexual activity in the community facilitated by force, overt or implied threats of force, or coercion, or if the victim did not consent or was unable or refused will be disqualified.

    Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.

    Possession of a current driver's license.

Job Duties and Other Information

Job Duties:

  • Provide direct supervision and leadershipto correctional officers, ensuring staff performance aligns with departmental policies, safety standards, and professional expectations.

  • Oversee daily facility operations, including housing units, movement control, security procedures, and emergency response readiness.

  • Conduct regular inspectionsof living areas, work sites, and security posts to ensure compliance with institutional rules, sanitation standards, and safety protocols.

  • Respond to and manage critical incidents, including disturbances, medical emergencies, and security breaches, ensuring proper documentation and follow-up.

  • Train, mentor, and evaluate staff, offering guidance, corrective action, and professional development to support a high-performing team.

Position-Specific Details:

Appointment Type: PROBATION, or PROMOTION OF A PERMANENT, CLASSIFIED LOUISIANA STATE EMPLOYEE

  • Current permanent status classified LA State employees may be required to accept a probational appointment if accepted.

  • An employee selected for a promotion may be required to serve a trial detail prior to being permanently promoted.

  • This posting may also be used to fill a vacancy as a temporary job appointment. If filled as a temporary job appointment, should a permanent position become available, the employee may be converted to a probational appointment.

Compensation: This position has a Special Entrance Rate (SER) of $23.03 per hour.

There is Premium Pay for this position: A rate between$.50 and $1.00 an hour for each regular hour worked, based on years of service with DOC, in addition to regular pay.
