Gratiot County Friend of the Court Clerk in Ithaca, Michigan

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt | Hourly Grade: 5 | Starting Wage: $19.34 per hour

Position Summary

Gratiot County is seeking a reliable and customer-focused Friend of the Court Clerk to support daily operations within the Friend of the Court office. This position plays a key role in front-line customer service, payment processing, scheduling, and clerical support.

The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, and able to manage multiple administrative responsibilities while providing professional service to the public.

Key Responsibilities

Payment Processing

  • Receive, process, and accurately document payments related to court-ordered obligations
  • Ensure compliance with applicable financial procedures and regulations

Mail & Correspondence Management

  • Sort, distribute, and manage incoming and outgoing mail
  • Maintain accurate records of correspondence

Scheduling & Coordination

  • Manage calendars, appointments, hearings, and meetings
  • Coordinate scheduling needs for the Friend of the Court office

Reception & Customer Service

  • Serve as the first point of contact for phone and in-person inquiries
  • Provide courteous, professional assistance and direct individuals appropriately

Clerical & Administrative Support

  • Prepare documents, maintain files, and support general office operations
  • Assist with recordkeeping and office organization

Office Support

  • Help maintain office supplies and ensure smooth day-to-day workflow
  • Participate in cross-training to support financial processing functions

Team Contribution

  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support department operations

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education: High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Experience: Minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience
  • Equivalent combinations of education, training, and experience may be considered

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of clerical procedures, recordkeeping, and office operations
  • Basic understanding of financial processes and payment handling
  • Strong customer service and communication skills
  • Ability to manage schedules and prioritize tasks effectively
  • Proficiency in office software and administrative systems
  • High attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive financial and legal information
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Willingness to cross-train and adapt to changing needs

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

  • Office-based work environment with frequent public interaction
  • Ability to lift up to 10 pounds
