ITW Quality Engineer Lead in Itasca, Illinois
Job Description:
Job Summary:
The Quality Engineer Lead develops, assures and maintains the quality of products and processes, including standard procedures (e.g., ISO 9001:2000, ISO 14000 family of standards), quality audits/review, Taguchi methods, process reengineering, etc. Develops methods for testing, sampling, and training. Develops policies, procedures and methods to evaluate and improve the quality of products, materials, components and/or operations. Works with quality inspection/control to train and oversee inspectors in their use of control forms, procedures, and correcting quality problems with rejected or defective products.
Primary Responsibilities:
Supervises QA technicians involved in the incoming inspection of parts and components and product testing and approval.
Fully involved in CBI (customer back innovation) process, inspecting/testing and auditing regular production as well as product related to field application difficulties.
Perform product quality audits to assure conformance to part prints and specifications, also complete process quality audits to assure conformance to standards, codes and policies.
Conduct trend analysis and process capability studies using either existing in-process collected test data and/or data collected by using special fixtures or measuring systems.
Supervise the calibration system. Design and implement new fixtures and gages needed inspection process.
Actively participate to the customer complaints process, non-conforming process, and corrective/preventative actions process. Collect data for Root Cause and Corrective Action Activities.
Oversees and conducts raw material and heat treatment testing/inspection.
Generate and/or update Quality plans and Inspection instructions for new or existing processes and/or families of product. Generate required related SOPs.
Participate in quality related customer meetings building a strong partnership based on a good understanding of the customer’s needs and an effective communication.
Provide production support with respect to the product quality, gauging and data interpretation aspects.
Hands-on activities (testing, inspection, audit) are required and could represent 30 to 40% of the workload.
As needed, provide divisional quality engineering support to ensure operational alignment.

Job Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in engineering or equivalent required; minimum 4 years' experience in high volume manufacturing environment
Experience supervising, coaching, and developing direct reports
Oral and written communication and organizational skills
Demonstrated capacity in generating Quality reports based on the Statistical data analysis
Working knowledge of Quality Management Systems (ISO9001) requirements
Demonstrated ability to develop data acquisition routines is a plus
Strong mathematical aptitudes and advanced skills in MS Office
Demonstrated ability to develop data acquisition routines and to implement/use SPC software is a plus.

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, talk, hear, reach with hands and arms and regularly required to walk. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. Must be able to lift 40 lbs., able to walk and stand for long periods of time at job site locations. Able to access work in high locations, must be able to climb a ladder.
Compensation Information:
The annual salary range for this position is $90,000 - $120,000.
