Job Title: Plastic Packaging Process Technician Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Process Technician with extensive experience in the plastic packaging industry. The successful candidate will possess expertise in two of the following areas: Injection blow molding, one-step blow molding, or two-step blow molding. A comprehensive understanding of industry standards, coupled with experience in tooling, quality, and process development, is essential for this role.

Responsibilities

  • Adhere to company policies and procedures.

  • Monitor assigned line operations while ensuring safety, quality, production, and housekeeping standards are met.

  • Verify operating conditions and settings against Process Set-up Sheet and Shop Order.

  • Conduct quality checks and audit the line for cleanliness and orderliness at the start of each shift.

  • Ensure safety guards are in place and monitor downstream auxiliary equipment for smooth operation.

  • Maintain a clean and organized line throughout the shift.

  • Maintain required documentation and review available line documentation.

  • Start-up and shut down lines, including purging materials.

  • Perform color and material changes independently.

  • Notify supervisors of any deviations from standard operating conditions.

  • Conduct changeovers and replace normal equipment wear parts without assistance.

  • Troubleshoot bottle handling and quality issues.

  • Perform Preventive Maintenance audits and inspect equipment for wear.

  • Sandblast molds as needed.

  • Perform all mechanical and processing tasks associated with line set-up and start-up.

  • Read and interpret bottle specification and quality data sheets.

  • Perform head and screw cleaning, grinder blade changes, and equipment teardown.

  • Assist with new product trials and sampling when required.

Essential Skills

  • 3-5 years of maintenance, engineering, or production management experience in the plastic packaging industry.

  • Experience with Sidel, Nissei, and IBM-Wheaton machines is preferred.

  • Proficiency in extrusion blow molding and injection molding processes.

  • Ability to perform color changes and changeovers independently.

  • Mechanical, technical, and process aptitude.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • 3+ years of extrusion blow molding experience.

  • 5+ years of injection molding process tech experience.

  • Familiarity with plastics materials and machine temperature adjustments.

  • Experience in checking water temperatures on machinery and performing daily/weekly PM schedules.

  • Leadership skills to foster teamwork and continuous improvement.

Work Environment

The facility spans 90,000 square feet, with 15 extrusion lines and 2 labeling lines. The machines are primarily extrusion and mechanical/hydraulic/pneumatic driven. The company specializes in producing plastic bottles for shampoo, lotion, and cleaning solutions of various sizes and colors.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Itasca, IL.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $33.00 - $35.00/hr.
