Vistra New Construction - Project Engineer (Staff thru Principal Consulting) in Irving, Texas

Job Summary

The Project Engineer is responsible for developing and maintaining existing engineering standards for systems and equipment associated with new construction Projects. The Project Engineer is responsible for verifying all site-specific engineering designs and equipment specifications align with Vistra fleet standards and Fleet SME guidance and are accurately incorporated into each project & contract strategy. The Project Engineer will be responsible for managing the engineering design process for new construction Projects. Travel for the project will be necessary and may required extended travel to meet project needs.

Job Description

Key Accountabilities

•Develop engineering design standards/guidelines/specifications for power plant systems and equipment in accordance with Vistra standards and Fleet SME guidance, to include:

o Thermal Power Plant Systems (combustion turbines, pumps, lube oil systems, heat exchanges, etc.)

o Coal to Gas Conversions (gas combustions systems, pressure regulators, burner management control systems, etc.)

o Transformer, Switchyard/Substation, T-Line

o Balance of Systems (controls, security, Fire Protection, Air handling, etc)

o Others as requested/needed to support construction

•Create/maintain a repository for all project designs and fleet standards – including incorporating lessons learned from previous projects

•Coordination to ensure engineering and equipment standards are accurately incorporated into each project design and Contract Strategy

•Complete a hazard analysis of all projects during pre-construction phase

•Utilize Vistra Playbook during development and construction of projects

•Review of 10%, 30%, 60%, IFC designs for Construction Projects issued by EPC contractor

•Support major equipment selection during early phase engineering

•Develop Engineering SOW’s & Owners Engineering SOW’s

Education, Experience, & Skill Requirements

•8+ years relevant experience (power generation operations, maintenance, engineering)

•Required experience in major Power Plant System Design

•Effective communication of complex concepts

•Knowledgeable of applicable codes, standards, regulations, and industry best practices; budgeting, & project management

•Demonstrated effectiveness in leadership, interpersonal skills, communication, creative problem solving and team building

•High level of expertise in MS Office suite

•Bachelor of Science in an accredited Engineering or Engineering Technology program

•Experience gained through college degree programs and/or certifications is applicable to above skills

Key Metrics

•Capture current engineering design standards, identify gaps and update standards to improve the quality of future projects

•Collaborate and communicate effectively with key project stakeholders

•Successful delivery of projects to Operations within established financial and production related performance targets

Pay grade and salary will be determined by education and experience
