About this role

Wells Fargo is seeking a talented Lead Software Engineer with experience building enterprise-grade automation platforms, infrastructure services, and scalable software systems that enable modern on‑premises and hybrid infrastructure.

The Hardware Engineering and Automation Team builds and operates software platforms that abstract and automate server hardware, virtualization, and bare‑metal infrastructure. The team develops APIs, services, and automation frameworks that enable fully automated provisioning, lifecycle management, and compliance-driven infrastructure delivery. We support advanced infrastructure needs—including AI workloads—by integrating hardware certification data, observability, and security controls into software-driven workflows. Through a product‑oriented engineering approach, the team accelerates infrastructure delivery, reduces operational toil, and improves reliability and scalability across the enterprise.

In this role, you will:

  • Design, develop, test, and maintain software systems, APIs, and automation frameworks that manage infrastructure at scale

  • Translate infrastructure and business requirements into well-defined software specifications and system designs

  • Apply Agile engineering practices to design, code, test, debug, document, and continuously improve software products

  • Partner with infrastructure, security, and DevOps teams to embed security, resiliency, and compliance into platform software

  • Review and influence designs related to cloud security integration, secrets management, and key rotation from a software perspective

  • Drive solutions that improve platform reliability, recovery automation, and operational resilience

  • Design and implement complex system upgrades and migrations with minimal disruption to consumers

  • Proactively identify and resolve emerging technical risks and architectural gaps

  • Develop long‑term technical strategies to eliminate recurring issues and reduce operational complexity

  • Provide technical leadership in risk and control execution, ensuring software aligns with enterprise policies, standards, and controls

  • Collaborate with peers, product partners, and engineering leaders to deliver outcomes aligned to roadmap priorities

Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of software engineering experience, demonstrated through one or more of the following: work experience, training, military experience, or education

  • 5+ years of experience building or supporting distributed systems, platforms, or large-scale automation solutions

  • 5+ years of experience developing software that interfaces with infrastructure platforms, such as virtualization, server provisioning, or AI/ML environments

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience developing platform or infrastructure-adjacent software that integrates with virtualization or hosting technologies (e.g., VMware, Nutanix)

  • Strong proficiency with Linux and/or Windows environments from a software development and automation standpoint

  • Experience leading the design, evaluation, and implementation of complex software platforms used at enterprise scale

  • Proven experience mentoring and coaching high-performing software engineers

  • Experience taking software products and services from inception through production delivery

  • Demonstrated success working in a product model, including roadmap planning, backlog prioritization, and incremental delivery

  • Strong scripting and programming skills (e.g., Python, Bash, PowerShell) and experience integrating with APIs and services

  • Hands-on experience with automation and orchestration frameworks such as Ansible, VMware Aria/VRA, Nutanix Calm, or similar

  • Experience delivering and managing solutions using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) principles

  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively across multiple concurrent initiatives

  • Ability to operate effectively within a geographically distributed organization

  • Customer-focused, service-oriented mindset with a strong sense of ownership
