Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Billing Manager to oversee and manage the complete billing lifecycle. The ideal candidate will ensure compliance with firm standards and client-specific requirements while working closely with attorneys and administrative staff to resolve billing issues and improve cash flow.
Responsibilities
Manage the full billing lifecycle, including new client setup, fee arrangements, invoice preparation, and periodic rate adjustments.
Utilize the firm’s billing platform to process invoices, maintain accurate records, and generate internal reports.
Ensure all billing complies with firm standards as well as client-specific requirements and contractual terms.
Work closely with attorneys and administrative staff to resolve billing issues, clarify discrepancies, and respond to client questions.
Assist with accounts receivable efforts by monitoring outstanding balances and supporting collection activities to improve cash flow.
Maintain current billing rates, client agreements, discount structures, and related data within the billing system.
Prepare and interpret billing analytics and financial reports to help leadership evaluate trends and performance.
Contribute billing-related insights for budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning.
Identify opportunities to streamline billing operations and implement process improvements.
Perform additional tasks and special projects as assigned by leadership.
Essential Skills
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
Minimum of five years of experience in legal billing, accounting, or financial management.
Hands-on experience with legal management systems (LMS) or other law firm billing and practice management platforms.
Prior leadership experience overseeing a billing team within a law firm or professional services environment.
Strong understanding of legal billing rules, compliance standards, and industry-specific requirements.
Exceptional organizational skills, professionalism, and a strong commitment to client service.
Excellent written and verbal communication abilities, including the capacity to work effectively with internal teams and external clients.
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office applications—especially Excel, including formulas, pivot tables, and data manipulation.
Ability to work efficiently under pressure, meet deadlines, and maintain a positive, service-oriented approach.
Capable of working independently, following established procedures, and completing assignments with minimal supervision.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience with ebilling and managing the billing process from start to finish.
Law firm experience is highly preferred, open to any type of law.
Experience as a billing manager, supervisor, or lead in previous roles.
Ability to coach or discipline employees when necessary.
Open to candidates looking to move up from a billing lead position.
Work Environment
This role offers a hybrid schedule, with 3 days onsite and 2 days remote after an 8-10 week training period. Initially, there will be no direct reports as accounting is currently outsourced, but the team is expected to expand to include 2-3 billing specialists under this manager as the department grows.

This is a Permanent position based out of Irvine, CA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $90000.00 - $110000.00/yr.
