Job Summary

The Director of Children Services provides strategic, operational leadership for all early childhood and childrens programs. This role is responsible for ensuring high quality, compliant, and developmentally appropriate services while advancing program growth, accreditation readiness, and continuous quality improvement. The Director oversees licensing and regulatory compliance, accreditation processes, staff leadership and development, program evaluation, and partnerships with funding and oversight agencies. This position plays a critical role in aligning Children Services with organizational priorities, best practices, and long-term sustainability.

Responsibilities

  • Provide overall leadership and direction for Children Services programs, ensuring alignment with organizational mission, values, and service standards.
  • Ensure the delivery of high-quality, developmentally appropriate early childhood services grounded in best-practice standards.
  • Design, implement, and evaluate program models that support childrens developmental, educational, and social-emotional needs.
  • Integrate trauma-aware, strengths-based, and family-centered practices across Childrens Services programs
  • Oversee daily operations, long- and short-term planning, and continuous quality improvement initiatives.
  • Provide oversight of day-to-day program operations to ensure consistent implementation of program standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Manage enrollment files, waitlists, attendance records, and required forms in compliance with licensing and agency policies
  • Ensure timely, accurate, and compliant documentation, reporting, and data management across all Children Services programs.
  • Lead accreditation efforts and maintain readiness, including policy development, documentation, staff training, and quality benchmarks.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of early childhood education regulations, licensing requirements, and accreditation standards.
  • Oversee program audits, monitoring visits, and corrective action plans as required by funders and regulatory agencies.
  • Hire, supervise, evaluate, and retain program leadership, teaching staff, and support personnel.
  • Establish clear performance expectations, measurable goals, and professional development plans.
  • Promote a positive, collaborative, and accountable work environment focused on excellence and continuous improvement.
  • Develop and maintain department training manuals, orientation materials, and ongoing staff development programs.
  • Foster strong partnerships with parents, caregivers, community organizations, and funding agencies.
  • Serve as an organizational representative at professional meetings, community forums, and interagency collaborations.
  • Support public education, outreach, and advocacy efforts related to early childhood development, poverty, and family stability.
  • Oversee program data systems and required reporting platforms to ensure accurate data collection, compliance, and performance monitoring.
  • Analyze program outcomes and performance data to inform planning, funding compliance, and service improvements.
  • Ensure accurate and timely reporting for all applicable funding sources in compliance with contractual and regulatory requirements.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Masters degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Education Administration, Social Work, or a related field required.
  • California Program Director Permit, required.
  • 24 units of ECE, including core courses
  • 3 units in Infant/Toddler Development, 6 units of administration and 2 units of adult supervision
  • 5 years of progressive leadership experience in early childhood education or childrens services.
  • Demonstrated experience overseeing licensed child development programs and managing multidisciplinary teams.
  • Proven experience with accreditation proce ses, quality rating improvement systems, or continuous quality improvement initiatives.
  • Experience working with publicly funded programs and regulatory agencies.
  • Familiarity with California Community Care Licensing requirements.

Other Requirement

  • Fingerprint Clearance through DOJ and FBI approved by California Community Care Licensing
  • CPR and First Aid Certification (may be obtained after hire if required)
  • Preventative Health Certification
  • Physical and TB Clearance within required timeframe
