Job Information
Oracle Senior Principal Electrical Engineer in Indianapolis, Indiana
Job Description
We are seeking a Senior Principal-level Electrical Engineer to serve as the field authority for mission-critical power systems across our global data center fleet. You will lead complex troubleshooting, commissioning, reliability improvements, and capacity enablement for medium- and low-voltage systems supporting high-density, liquid-cooled compute. This is an individual contributor role with broad influence across Design, Construction, Operations, Controls/BMS, and EPMS.
Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
Lead on-site and remote technical support for electrical infrastructure: utility service, MV switchgear, transformers, LV switchgear, UPS/ESS, PDUs/PPMs, RPPs, busway, and grounding.
Ensure electrical reliability strategies (N, N+1, 2N) are implemented and verifiable; validate selective coordination, protection settings, and arc flash boundaries.
Develop, review, and approve electrical MOPs/SOPs/EOPs for live-site switching, maintenance, and energization activities; drive safe execution and risk mitigation.
Partner with Design Engineering on one-lines, protection/coordination studies, short circuit/arc flash studies, load flow, and harmonic analysis; review submittals and FAT/SAT plans.
Lead electrical commissioning (FAT, FPT, IST), integrated testing of UPS/generation/cooling interdependencies, and black start/failover scenarios.
Drive EPMS/SCADA strategy and integration with BMS: points lists, alarming, trending, power quality monitoring, sequence validation, and automated reporting.
Conduct RCAs for electrical incidents (breaker trips, UPS events, PQ anomalies); implement corrective/preventive actions and reliability-centered maintenance.
Collaborate with mechanical teams to ensure electrical readiness and resilience for liquid cooling plants (CDUs, pumps, chillers, towers) and control power.
Evaluate vendor technologies and field performance; influence standards for equipment selection, spares, and lifecycle planning.
Ensure compliance with safety and regulatory standards: NFPA 70/70E, IEEE, IEC, utility interconnection rules, and local codes; champion LOTO and energized work minimization.
Use data and analytics for capacity planning and risk assessment: PQ analysis, transient capture, breaker trip curves, and thermal imaging/cycle counting.
What you’ll bring
12+ years in mission-critical data center electrical design/operations, with 5+ years in large-scale (>50 MW) facilities.
Deep expertise in MV/LV distribution, UPS topologies (double conversion, line-interactive, distributed/centralized), battery/ESS technologies, and standby generation.
Strong knowledge of EPMS/SCADA, electrical protection and coordination, arc flash analysis, and commissioning best practices.
Proven leadership executing live-site switching, complex energizations, and RCAs with durable corrective actions.
Proficiency with electrical one-lines, schematics, protection settings files, and design reviews.
Familiarity with NFPA, IEEE, NEC/IEC, and utility interconnection/parallel generation requirements.
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (or related) or equivalent experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
Experience with power quality mitigation (harmonics, flicker, transients) and high-density liquid-cooled deployments.
Knowledge of advanced analytics for reliability and capacity forecasting; experience with digital relays and PLC integration.
Strong cross-functional influence and communication skills.
PE license, NETA, or CxA credential a plus.
Working conditions
On-call for critical events and planned maintenance.
