V2X Senior FPGA Engineer II (T04) in Indianapolis, Indiana
Description
V2X is seeking an accomplished Senior FPGA Engineer II (T04) to join our Embedded Solutions team within the Software Department. Embedded Solutions is a core, cross-disciplinary function specializing in the design, integration, and optimization of high-performance embedded systems. The function includes advanced FPGA /SoC, firmware, and digital hardware development, supporting a broad range of defense and aerospace portfolios.
This is a technical leadership role focused on architecture, implementation, and integration of advanced FPGA/SoC solutions for real-time embedded applications. The current priority is high-assurance, high-bandwidth mission systems using leading-edge platforms such as Microchip PolarFire SoC or Xilinx UltraScale+ MPSoC. The ideal candidate will drive innovation in digital processing, video encode/decode, and network interfaces within collaborative cross-functional teams in a functionally matrixed engineering environment.
Key Responsibilities
Lead architecture, design, implementation, and verification of advanced FPGA and SoC-based solutions using VHDL, Verilog, or SystemVerilog for embedded and mission-critical applications
Integrate FPGAs and SoCs with embedded microprocessors, high-speed memory, and advanced digital interfaces including SPI, I²C, UART, PCIe, DDR, LVDS, and Ethernet
Implement and optimize video processing blocks, IP cores, or encode/decode solutions such as H.265 for embedded video streaming or sensor applications
Lead development and debugging of hardware-level Ethernet and other high-speed networking interfaces
Oversee simulation, synthesis, timing closure, and hardware validation using industry-standard EDA tools like Vivado, Quartus, ModelSim, and Synplify
Take technical ownership of hardware bring-up, system integration, board-level validation, and troubleshooting in lab environments
Collaborate closely with electrical, software, systems, and test engineering teams throughout the product lifecycle, from requirements through test and support
Mentor and coach engineers at all levels, supporting technical reviews and driving adoption of best practices in FPGA, SoC, and digital product development
Prepare clear technical documentation, integration guides, and verification plans to support traceability, compliance, and project execution
Support technical estimation, proposal development, and strategy for new embedded/digital initiatives
Ensure all engineering practices meet V2X standards for quality, security, safety, and compliance (e.g., DO-254, MIL-STD-882E, or related requirements)
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related STEM field (Master’s preferred)
Minimum 8 years of professional experience in FPGA or SoC design and digital hardware for embedded or real-time systems, including system-level integration roles
Extensive experience with VHDL or Verilog as well as EDA toolchains for simulation, implementation, and verification (such as Vivado, Quartus, ModelSim)
Proven technical leadership in hardware/software system integration, including guiding complex project execution and mentoring other engineers
Strong experience implementing and debugging high-speed digital interfaces, memory controllers, and communications protocols including SPI, I²C, UART, PCIe, DDR, and Ethernet
Demonstrated ability to conduct lab-based validation, bring-up, testing, and troubleshooting
Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to lead and collaborate within multidisciplinary Agile teams
U.S. citizenship required
Security Clearance and Other Requirements
- Eligibility to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) security clearance may be necessary
Preferred Qualifications
Experience leading digital hardware or FPGA development in safety-critical, aerospace, or defense environments such as DO-254, MIL-STD-882E, or ARP4754
Background integrating C/C++ firmware or embedded software with hardware and experience with requirements traceability and configuration management tools
Advanced skills in hardware-level video or image processing, including experience with H.265/HEVC or other embed video codec IP
Experience developing and integrating high-speed networking solutions, particularly SoC-based Ethernet implementations
Practical experience running technical reviews, proposal evaluation, or serving as a subject matter expert
Familiarity with Agile/SCRUM leadership and comprehensive lifecycle management in regulated development environments
Experience with hardware-in-the-loop testing, advanced debugging, or automated verification frameworks
Advanced degree or industry certifications in FPGA/SoC, system safety, or related fields are a plus
