V2X Aerospace Solutions is seeking a Principal Systems Safety Engineer to join our Systems Engineering department in Indianapolis, IN. Systems Safety Engineering is part of Systems Engineering that applies safety practices derived from MIL-STD-882E and the Joint Software Systems Safety Committee (JSSSC) Handbook to our delivered products. In this role, you will influence the systems’ design and architecture balancing performance, safety, supportability, testability, and cost consideration throughout the lifecycle of the product. The Safety Engineering function supports systems engineering activities including trade studies, use case development, requirements definition and derivation, interface definition, and requirement validation and verification. As such, Systems Safety Engineers interface with the other engineering disciplines and logistics engineering functions to ensure integration and continuity in the design and development process.
Must be a U.S. Citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Security Clearance

This position serves as a member of the Vertex Engineering Team and supports various programs within a matrix management assignment as directed. Deliverables include, but not limited to, System Safety Program Plan, Preliminary Hazard Analysis, System Safety Risk Assessment, System Safety Hazard Analysis Report, Safety and Health Data Sheets, Fault Tree Analysis, technical reports, schedules, basis of estimates for new pursuits, and analyses as required to execute program systems safety. This position requires the ability to perform core systems engineering tasks in addition to Systems Safety tasks when needed.
Required Skills:
Minimum of 12 years of engineering experience.
U.S. Citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Security Clearance
Experience with System Safety Engineering practices as derived from MIL-STD-882E, and Joint Software Systems Safety Committee (JSSSC) Handbook.
Ability to produce DoD required documentation, such as:
System Safety Management Plan
Preliminary Hazard Analysis
Functional Hazard Assessment
System Safety Risk Assessment,
System Safety Hazard Analysis Report
Safety and Health Data Sheets,
Safety Engineering Analysis Report
Failure Mode Effects and Criticality Report
Safety Assessment Report
Engineering Change Proposal System Safety Report
Waiver or Deviation System Safety Report (WDSSR)
Health Hazard Assessment Report
Safety Studies Report
Safety Studies Plan
Mishap Risk Assessment Report
Experience with requirements development, hardware and software development and verification.
Exposure with Failure Reporting, Analysis and Corrective Action System (FRACAS) development and operations per MIL-STD-2155
Desired Skills:
Strong written, verbal and presentation skills
Strong interpersonal and project management skills, with the ability to manage a safety program and provide direction to supporting safety personnel
Understanding of Software Development Lifecycle (including Agile and/or Waterfall)
Experience with a wide application of technical theories and concepts related to system safety engineering
Knowledge of AR 385-10, Army System Safety Management Guide, MIL-HDBK-454, MIL-STD-464, MIL-STD-1425, AMCOM 385-17, and Human Systems Integration, SAE 6906
Experience presenting to the Nonnuclear Munitions Safety Board (NNMSB) and knowledge of MIL-STD-2088B.
Experience presenting to Software System Safety Technical Review Panels (SSSTRP) or Software Materiel Release activities
Experience with US Government airworthiness processes (ex. MIL-HDBK-516, EDRAP) and certification boards.
Experience developing proposals and basis of estimates
Experience in other Systems Specialty areas such as Reliability, Human Factors, etc.
Education Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) degree.
Note: A Master’s degree in Engineering or a related Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) degree may be counted as the equivalent of 2 years of engineering experience.
