Summary
The primary focus of the Contracts Manager is to manage the legal portion of the contract life cycle management for USIC customer and supplier contracts. This role works closely with Legal, Operations, Sales, and Finance to draft, review, negotiate, and administer agreements with utility customers and municipalities. The Contracts Manager will ensure compliance with, and recommend improvements to, overall contracting processes and serve as an important member of the Legal team. The ideal candidate will have strong contract drafting and negotiation skills and the ability to balance legal risk with operational realities in a fast-paced and high-volume services environment. A Juris Doctor (JD) is preferred but not required.
Responsibilities
Draft, review, revise, and negotiate a variety of USIC contracts and other documents (e.g., SOW, MSA, NDA) on a regional and national level
Manage the contract lifecycle from intake through execution, including internal review, approvals, and record management.
Assist teams with review and interpretation of terms and conditions for bid/proposal process and throughout the operation of the contract
Help negotiate contracts with customers and third parties; escalate complex issues to the appropriate internal team members
Help define, revise and articulate contractual terms and conditions requirements including key risk / opportunities
Ensure contracting process adheres to USIC’s commercial and legal Delegation of Authority requirements
Serve as USIC’s resource for explaining/presenting terms and conditions to internal management
Build and manage organized system of physical and digital records
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in business, legal studies, or related field.
4+ years of experience in contract management, contract administration, or commercial contracting. Corporate contract department experience is preferable
Strong understanding of commercial contracts and contract interpretation together with strong analytical skills and problem-solving abilities
Ability to manage multiple commercial matters simultaneously under deadlines
Outstanding communication skills, both written and verbal, with a solution-oriented mindset
Ability to foster a collaborative work environment
Excellent computer skills with Microsoft Office suite
CRM experience, preferably with SalesForce.com
Ability to work independently and collaboratively with variety of stakeholders, teams, customers, and personalities. Ability be creative and analytical with excellent critical thinking skills
Self-motivated, driven collaborator, exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, and demonstrated ability to take ownership
Resourceful, ability to self-manage, high sense of accountability
Preferred
Juris Doctor (JD) degree
Experience supporting operations in service-based or infrastructure-related industries
Experience working with contract lifecycle management (CLM) systems
