This Construction Project Manager role oversees all phases of commercial construction projects, ensuring they are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and to high quality standards. You will manage multiple projects simultaneously, ranging from car washes and early learning centers to large-scale club house and water park developments in central Indiana. With strong support from the leadership team and assistance from project engineers or assistant project managers, you will refine your leadership abilities, deepen your construction expertise, and focus on delivering an outstanding client experience.
Responsibilities
Lead, direct, and coordinate the day-to-day management and construction activities for assigned projects.
Ensure overall safety, direction, completion, and financial performance of construction projects from initial budgeting through project closeout.
Resolve day-to-day project issues promptly to support timely, safe, and profitable project completion.
Manage project costs through ongoing evaluation of labor, material, and equipment usage.
Forecast and analyze construction costs, exposures, and profits throughout the life of each project.
Ensure high levels of customer satisfaction by proactively identifying client needs and striving to exceed expectations.
Maintain strong business relationships with owners, architects, subcontractors, and internal team members.
Make and honor commitments to clients, architects, and subcontractors to support successful project outcomes.
Draft, review, and issue subcontracts and purchase orders in a timely manner.
Negotiate and execute owner and subcontractor change orders promptly and accurately.
Prepare, maintain, and review project schedules, ensuring adherence and making modifications as needed to meet project milestones.
Plan, lead, and document project meetings with internal and external stakeholders.
Establish and manage job processes including RFIs, submittals, and pay applications.
Review and approve pay applications and negotiate subcontractor change orders as required.
Utilize construction management software, including Procore, to track project progress, documentation, and communication.
Provide advice, guidance, leadership, and direction to all company team members assigned to projects, including assistant project managers and project engineers.
Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment on project goals, timelines, and deliverables.
Oversee and coordinate multiple commercial projects concurrently, including projects with budgets of $5 million or more and at least one large project of $20 million or more.
Essential Skills
Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management or Civil Engineering (preferred) with at least 3+ years of experience as a Project Manager, or no degree with at least 5+ years of Project Manager experience with a general contractor.
Proven experience running 3–5 commercial construction projects at the same time.
Extensive experience with metal stud, metal framing, or steel construction on the majority of past projects.
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects with budgets of $5 million or more and at least one large project of $20 million or more.
Strong construction acumen with a solid understanding of commercial, institutional, and industrial construction.
Working knowledge of current market conditions, including pricing conventions and trends.
Ability to read, interpret, and analyze construction documents and drawings.
Knowledge of contracting, purchasing, and construction means and methods.
Strong project management skills, including scheduling, budgeting, and risk management.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Proven collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
Sense of urgency and the ability to drive tasks and decisions to completion.
Ability to manage and enhance the overall client experience throughout the project lifecycle.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
OSHA 30-Hour Certification (preferred).
Proficiency in Microsoft Project for project scheduling and tracking (preferred).
Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel for documentation, reporting, and analysis.
Experience using Procore or similar construction management software.
K-12 or institutional construction experience.
Demonstrated ability to work as a cohesive part of a team and support colleagues.
Strong client relationship management skills, with a focus on service and responsiveness.
Work Environment
This is an in-office role based in central Indiana, with work performed on-site and in the office. The Construction Project Manager works in the office five days per week and attends biweekly on-site project meetings that require short travel to and from the office. The environment is fast-paced and team-oriented, with a strong emphasis on safety, quality, and client satisfaction. You will use tools such as Procore, Microsoft Project, Word, and Excel as part of your daily work. Project managers receive support from assistant project managers or project engineers to help with paperwork and documentation, allowing you to focus heavily on client experience and project leadership. Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $100000.00 - $160000.00/hr.
