Job Title: Forklift Operator

Job Description

The Forklift Operator safely loads, unloads, and moves freight within a clean, modern distribution facility. This role focuses on accurate handling of inbound and outbound shipments, proper documentation, and maintaining a safe and organized dock environment.

Responsibilities

  • Load inbound and outbound freight to and from vehicles and containers using a forklift and other material handling equipment.

  • Unload inbound and outbound containers and sort freight according to size, type, and destination.

  • Read, decode, and decipher freight coding to expedite freight movement and support the tracing process.

  • Reconcile driver pick-up and delivery manifests to ensure accurate shipment documentation.

  • Label, weigh, and dimensionalize freight to support proper routing and billing.

  • Record damaged shipments and misrouted freight on the appropriate reports and systems.

  • Perform regular cleanup activities in the work area to maintain a safe, orderly, and clean dock.

  • Follow all safety procedures and operational guidelines while operating equipment and handling freight.

  • Perform all essential functions of the role with or without reasonable accommodation.

Essential Skills

  • Proven experience operating a forklift in a warehouse or distribution environment.

  • Strong material handling skills, including loading, unloading, and organizing freight.

  • Ability to read, decode, and interpret freight labels, codes, and documentation.

  • Experience with basic inventory handling and freight tracking processes.

  • Attention to detail when labeling, weighing, and dimensionalizing freight.

  • Ability to accurately reconcile pick-up and delivery manifests.

  • Commitment to maintaining a clean, safe, and organized work area.

  • Ability to document damaged or misrouted freight clearly and accurately.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Background as a Forklift Operator or Equipment Operator.

  • Experience in material handling and freight or inventory counting.

  • Comfort working with shipping documentation and freight reports.

  • Ability to work effectively across different shifts as scheduled.

Work Environment

This role is based in a clean, modern warehouse and dock environment that emphasizes safety and organization. You will operate forklifts and other material handling equipment to move freight throughout the facility. Multiple shift options are available, including Sun–Wed and Wed–Sat schedules with 1st shift (6:00am–4:30pm), 2nd shift (4:00pm–2:30am), and 3rd shift (10:00pm–8:30am), as well as a Fri–Mon schedule from 6:00am–6:30pm. The work involves physical activity on the dock and adherence to standard warehouse safety practices and attire.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Independence, KY.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $24.00/hr.
