Description

SUMMARY:Duties include the construction and repair of bridges, box culverts and low-water crossings and other related issues such as drainage, drift and traffic control. Must be able operate all types of light equipment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESinclude the following. Other duties will be assigned.

Cleans road or bridge surfaces and applies and rakes patching material.

Must be able to help build, bolt, and nail, align, and setup forms for bridges and culverts.

Loads and unloads equipment and material from trucks.

Assists in concrete pouring and finishing.

Mix bagged concrete.

Assists in the repair, maintenance and erection of signs, guardrail, box culverts and bridges.

Ability to use cutting torch and welder.

Fastens attachments to equipment.

Assists in painting bridges and guardrails.

Greases, oils and performs minor repairs on equipment.

Must have a current Class C drivers license and be able to drive a pickup truck at start of employment.

Uses hand tools such as hammer, shovel, rake, chain saw or other tools used to maintain right-of-way and bridges.

Must be available for call out.

QUALIFICATIONS:To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: High School diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos. Ability to effectively present information one-on-one and in small groups.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.

REASONING ABILITY:Ability to apply commonsense understanding to instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form and carry out duties in the safest and most efficient manner. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: :Must have current Class C drivers license and be able to obtain a minimum of a Class B CDL (which is required to move to an Operator II) or preferably a Class A CDL with a Tanker Endorsement (which is required to move to an Operator III) within 12 months. Must be willing to attend training classes as required.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:Must be familiar with current road construction and maintenance practices. Must be able to talk with the public and discuss their concerns in a professional manner.
