Southern Ute Tribe Lands Technician in Ignacio, Colorado
POSITION SUMMARY: Provides technical and clerical support to the Lands Division and provides general information to the Tribal Membership and general public regarding land status issues, Crossing Permits, and general land management related issues.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. May be responsible for the general routing and compiling of comments for Proposed Project Notifications (PPN process).
2. May be responsible for issuing crossing permits to the general public and assisting in the processing of rights-of-way, service line agreements, dedicated easements, leases, and assignment requests.
3. Prepares Tribal Council resolutions/packets, correspondence, and other documents, including some composition for supervisor's review and approval.
4. Prepares presentation materials including maps, digital photos, and handouts.
5. Attends and participates in field on-sites related to surface management of Tribal lands as needed or as required.
6. Performs data entry, ensuring documentation and data is 100% accurate, current, and processed in a timely manner.
7. Performs land status research, reviews land related documents and legal descriptions through the use of databases, files and plat maps.
8. Generates maps and analyzes data through the use of GIS/ARCVIEW computer programs as requested.
9. Safely operates a four-wheel drive vehicle.
10. Assists Tribal members, the general public, and land and resource managers with land-related questions in a professional and courteous manner.
11. Attends all staff meetings and trainings as requested.
12. Participates in a professional, positive, supportive and team-oriented environment.
13. Performs other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Must have a High School Diploma or Equivalent.
Must have 1 year of experience working with natural resources management/land/realty issues.
Must have 1 year of experience in reviewing legal documents, such as Deeds of Trust, Warranty Deeds, Quit Claim Deeds, or contracts and leases related to realty or real property transactions.
Must have 1 year of experience in reviewing and interpreting legal descriptions, plats or preparing maps.
Must have 1 year of clerical experience.
Must have a strong background in computer software programs including Microsoft Word and Excel.
Must be able to pass a Lands Division skills test.
Must have valid Driver's license for state of residency and be insurable under the Tribal Vehicle Insurance Policy.
Must pass a thorough criminal history background check and pre-employment drug test.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Strong computer skills in GIS/Arcview, and PowerPoint.
Knowledge of Tribal and Federal land related law.
Knowledge of the Southern Ute Indian Reservation, Tribal natural resources, and land ownership status.
TERO preference.
