Southern Ute Tribe Head Cook in Ignacio, Colorado
POSITION SUMMARY: Under general supervision of the Food Service Manager; prepares meals for the Southern Ute Indian Montessori Academy.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Responsible for preparing meals and snacks.
2. Assists in ordering food and supplies, maintaining an adequate inventory.
3. Responsible for ensuring the cleanliness of the kitchen facility and all equipment and utensils.
4. Prepares all special and therapeutic diets as prescribed by supervisor.
5. Attends training in food preparation techniques and sanitation procedure and requirements as directed.
6. Operates large-scale kitchen equipment to include ovens, food slicer, dishwasher, and mixer.
7. Assists in recording daily meal charges, and monthly billing reports for the finance department.
8. Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with Equipment Suppliers, Food Vendors, Tribal Departments and staff, students, family members, and community members, using effective public relations skills with both adults and children, and promotes excellent customer service.
9. Performs other job-related duties as required or requested.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Must have High School Diploma or Equivalent.
Must have knowledge of procedures used in preparing, cooking, and serving food for 75 or more individuals.
Must have knowledge of proper food combinations, nutritional values, portions, and menu building for children ages birth through thirteen.
Must have knowledge of infection control procedures.
Must have basic computer knowledge in programs including Microsoft Word and Excel.
Must have, or be able to obtain, a food handler license.
Must have or be willing to obtain Standard First Aid, Infant/Child/Adult CPR Certification, and training in safe ergonomic work practices within 3 months of hire.
Must pass a TB test.
Must pass a thorough background check including Criminal History, fingerprint check, and pre-employment drug test.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
CPR and First Aid certification.
Previous experience with the Montessori philosophy including family style dining.
Familiarity with Southern Ute customs, traditions, ceremonies, and language.
TERO preference.
