Southern Ute Tribe Grant Writer in Ignacio, Colorado

POSITION SUMMARY: The Grant Writer is responsible for planning, writing, editing, and preparing grant applications to Federal, State, and private entities, as well as conducting prospect/foundation/federal agency research. This position works closely with Tribal Council, Program Directors, Finance staff, and external partners to develop funding proposals that are aligned with Tribal sovereignty and strategic goals. In addition, the Grant Writer assists with monitoring programs to ensure compliance with grant agreement terms and conditions, as well as grantor regulatory requirements, including financial and programmatic reporting.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

1.     Identifies and pursues funding opportunities by researching Federal, State, and private funding sources which align with Tribal priorities, strategic plans, and community-identified programs and initiatives.

 

2.     Assists Program Directors in identifying programs responsive to Tribal needs and securing funding to support those programs.

 

3.     Initiates and participates in Tribal inter-departmental meetings to identify and prioritize funding projects, coordinate grant development activities and research assignments.

 

4.     Leads and assists in researching data and drafting funding applications, including narrative and budget development.

 

5.     Assists Program Directors with grant application development, including preparation of briefing materials, summaries, and presentations to Tribal Council.

 

6.     Reviews and edits grant applications along with supporting documentation to ensure accuracy, completeness, clarity, and adherence to grant opportunity guidance and application requirements.

 

7.     Records and maintains grant proposal submission information and supporting documentation in the grants database.

 

8.     Maintains liaison relationships with funding agency representatives and grant partners throughout the application and award process---pre-award through post-award.

 

9.     Develops and provides training pertaining to grant funding identification, application development, and the submission processes for Tribal departments and grant partners.

 

10.  Develops and maintains grant resource materials to support Program Managers with grant management responsibilities.

 

11.  Assists with post-award monitoring of grant-funded programs to ensure compliance with Federal, State, and private grant or contract requirements, including budget monitoring and report collection and submission.

 

12.  Assists in maintaining official, auditable grant records and in preparing required financial reports and other official documents for timely submission to funding agencies.

 

13.  Responds to requests from the Chief Financial Officer, Controller, and the Contracts & Grants Manager.

 

14.  Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

           

Must have an AA/AS in English, Public Administration, Accounting, Finance, or relevant field, OR 3 years of grant writing or technical writing experience.

 

Must have experience preparing grant applications, grant renewals and relevant technical work.

 

Must show demonstrated record of securing funding through grant applications.

 

Must have advanced computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Adobe.

 

Must have general experience and knowledge of finance, budget development, and grant administration.

 

Must have strong writing skills and pass a writing and Excel exercise to verify knowledge and writing ability.

 

Must pass a thorough criminal history background check and pre-employment drug test.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Five years of grant writing experience.

 

Grant writing experience working for a Native American Tribe or organization.

 

Demonstrated record of securing more than $100K i funding because of grant applications and renewals.

 

Experience using grants.gov and/or similar grant application/administration sites.

TERO preference.
