The Colorado Qualifying House (Q House) is a transitional housing & positive skill development program located on over 70 acres of land at the bottom of Mt. Blue Sky. The Q house serves as a Residential Treatment Center that provides male youth ages 16-21 with opportunities for positive growth through evidence-based interventions and innovative programming, including on-site school & vocational opportunities, therapeutic support, community engagement, and tailored programming that is co-created in collaboration with all youth and staff.
The Q House supports youth in developing the skills and resources needed to lead self-determined lives without experiencing the barriers of future systems involvement. Our trauma-informed approach emphasizes collaborative growth and recognizes that everyone – youth and staff alike – have goals that we can use our collective knowledge and experiences to mutually support.
What you will do:
The primary objectives of Youth Mentors are to ensure the safe supervision of at-risk youth with supportive, trauma-responsive practices and assist with positive skill development through modeling & mentorship. Most of the time the Youth Mentor will be at the Qualifying House in Idaho Springs, with consistent community outings in Clear Creek County and the greater Denver Metro area (going to museums, volunteering with the local Elks Lodge, hikes & ski trips, etc). This role will work with the team to make sure regardless of location or programming there is active supervision and support provided to the youth according to licensing requirements and program best practices.
We strongly encourage you to bring your full self to work; if there is a skill, methodology, or resource that you want to share with youth & staff, we want to make that happen! From greenhouse gardening to impactful authors to outdoor adventures, what has helped you build resilience during difficult times in your life? We believe that in sharing these experiences and resources among peers – rather than simply prescribing what is the best path for someone else – we can all discover and grow in the things that will make us the best and healthiest versions of ourselves.
