Position Overview:
The Mighty Argo Cable Car (MACC) in Idaho Springs is a state-of-the-art cable car system connecting visitors to Colorado's rich mining heritage, scenic mountain trailheads at Virginia Canyon Mountain Park, and sweeping views of the Colorado Rockies from Miner's Point---a vibrant recreational complex featuring dining, an amphitheater, and year-round events and activities for all ages.
The Lift Operator plays a safety-critical role in ensuring the safe, reliable, and welcoming operation of the Mighty Argo Cable Car. Lift Operators are responsible for monitoring lift systems, ensuring smooth daily operations, maintaining a strong safety culture, and delivering an exceptional guest experience. Lift Operators perform their duties in accordance with Colorado Passenger Tramway Safety Board (CPTSB) regulations, manufacturer requirements, internal operating procedures, and approved emergency response plans to ensure the safe, reliable, and efficient transport of passengers.

Key Responsibilities
Operations
- Operate the lift in strict accordance with approved operating procedures, manufacturer specifications, and CPTSB regulations.
- Maintain required CPTSB staffing levels at every loading/unloading station to ensure safe guest flow, weight distribution, and cabin capacity compliance.
- Support opening and shutdown procedures, including pre- and post-operational inspections and system checks in accordance with the ANSI B77.1 protocols and manufacturer's protocols.
- Maintain continuous situational awareness of lift performance, terminal activity, line conditions, weather, and passenger behavior during operations that may impact safety.
- Participate in routine safety drills, emergency response training, and operational training.
- Respond appropriately to operational irregularities by following established procedures and promptly notifying the Lift Maintenance & Operations Supervisor.
- Follow radio protocol/procedures when using radios to communicate on-site.
Safety & Emergency Preparedness
- Actively support and uphold the organization's safety management system (SMS) and safety-first culture.
- Participate in required safety training, emergency drills, evacuation exercises, and operational refreshers.
- Execute assigned duties during emergency situations in accordance with approved Emergency Action and Evacuation Plans, under the direction of supervisory personnel.
- Maintain calm, clear communication with guests during service interruptions or emergency events.
Compliance & Reporting

- Adhere to all applicable Colorado Passenger Tramway Safety Board (CPTSB) regulations and internal safety standards.
- Accurately complete and maintain operational logs, safety checklists, and incident reports.
- Immediately report mechanical concerns, safety issues, incidents, or near misses in accordance with CPTSB and company reporting requirements.
- Support CPTSB inspections, audits, and reviews by following procedures and maintaining accurate records.
- Understand and operate within the defined scope of an operator role, reporting mechanical or technical issues rather than attempting repairs unless authorized.
Maintenance Coordination
- Communicate observed mechanical concerns, abnormal sounds, vibrations, or equipment behavior to the maintenance team promptly.
- Support maintenance activities as appropriate within the scope of the operator role and under supervisory direction.
- Help maintain clean, orderly, and safe terminal and work areas.
Guest Experience & Communication
- Serve as a friendly, knowledgeable point of contact for guests, providing clear instructions, reassurance, and assistance during boarding and unloading.
- Communicate confidently and prof ssionally with guests, especially in high-traffic or unexpected situations.
- Support a best-in-class guest experience by using approved guest-interaction frameworks, especially when addressing concerns, delays, or service disruptions.
- Serve as a visible ambassador for MACC's commitment to safety, professionalism, and hospitality.
Team Collaboration
- Collaborate seamlessly with Lift Mechanics, Guest Services, and F&B teams to ensure coordinated operations, clear guest communication, and rapid response to safety/maintenance needs across stations.
- Work well in a busy, team-based environment.

Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- Valid driver's license.
- Must be 18+
- Ability to successfully complete a background check and pre-employment drug screening in accordance with applicable laws. Marijuana is excluded from the pre-employment drug screening panel.
- Strong commitment to safety, attention to detail, and procedural compliance.
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with guests, teammates, and supervisors in both routine and high-attention situations.
- Ability to follow written procedures and perform assigned inspections and documentation accurately.
- Willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and stand for extended periods.
- Availability to work weekends, holidays, and flexible schedules as required by operations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with or supporting ski lifts, gondolas, tramways, chairlifts, or similar mechanical or transportation systems.
- Familiarity with CPTSB regulations, regulated safety environments, or safety management systems.
- Background in operations, mechanical systems, transportation, outdoor recreation, technical trades, or safety-sensitive roles.

Physical & Environmental Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, and remain alert for extended periods.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. as needed.
- Comfortable working at heights and around mechanical equipment.
- Ability to work in changing weather conditions, including wind, sun, rain, snow, heat, and cold.
- On-site presence required during shifts.
Training & Certification
- All Lift Operators will receive role-specific training, including safety procedures, emergency response, and operational standards.
- Ongoing training and certification support will be provided to ensure compliance with CPTSB and internal requirements.
Compensation
- Hourly Rate: $20 - $25/hour, commensurate with experience.
