Position Overview

The Mighty Argo Cable Car (MACC) in Idaho Springs is a state-of-the-art cable car system connecting visitors to Colorado's rich mining heritage, scenic mountain trailheads at Virginia Canyon Mountain Park, and sweeping views of the Colorado Rockies from Miner's Point---a vibrant recreational complex featuring dining, an amphitheater, and year-round events and activities for all ages.

The Lift Mechanic is a technical, safety-critical role responsible for supporting the inspection, maintenance, repair, and operational readiness of the Mighty Argo Cable Car. Working under the direction of the Lift Maintenance & Operations Supervisor, Lift Mechanics help ensure the system operates safely, reliably, and in full compliance with manufacturer specifications, CPTSB regulations, ANSI B77.1 standards, and internal safety procedures.

This position is ideal for mechanically and/or electrically inclined individuals who enjoy working outdoors and are interested in developing a career within the aerial lift industry.

Key Responsibilities

Lift Maintenance & Technical Support

  • Assist with preventive, corrective, and failure maintenance of the cable car and associated systems.
  • Support daily, weekly, monthly, and annual inspections, maintenance activities, and servicing schedules.
  • Assist with mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic troubleshooting under supervisory guidance.
  • Perform assigned pre- and post-operational checks in accordance with approved procedures.
  • Support preparation for annual licensing inspections, audits, and operational readiness reviews.

Safety, Compliance & Documentation

  • Perform all work in compliance with CPTSB regulations, ANSI B77.1 standards, OSHA requirements, manufacturer guidelines, and internal safety protocols.
  • Accurately complete required maintenance logs, inspection checklists, and safety documentation.
  • Promptly report malfunctions, hazards, unusual conditions, or near misses to the Lift Maintenance & Operations Supervisor.
  • Participate in safety meetings, emergency drills, training sessions, and competency evaluations as required.

Operational & Team Collaboration

  • Work collaboratively with Lift Operators and Facilities teams to support safe daily operations.
  • Assist with work on lift towers, terminals, and elevated work areas as assigned and trained.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in a clean, organized, and safe condition.
  • Support continuous improvement efforts related to maintenance practices, reliability, and system performance.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Ability to successfully complete a background check and pre-employment drug screening in accordance with applicable laws. Marijuana is excluded from the pre-employment drug screening panel.
  • Strong commitment to safety, attention to detail, and procedural compliance.
  • Ability to follow written procedures and perform assigned inspections and documentation accurately.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with guests, teammates, and supervisors in both routine and high-attention situations.
  • Willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and stand for extended periods.
  • Availabili y to work weekends, holidays, and flexible schedules as required by operations.
  • Use good judgment and a proactive mindset to address potential issues before they affect operations
  • Maintain a professional and positive demeanor, especially in high-stress situations.

Preferred Qualifications (Level-Dependent)

  • 1--3+ years of mechanical and/or electrical experience (preferred in lift systems).
  • All levels welcome to apply.
  • Experience with lift systems such as Doppelmayr, Leitner-Poma, or similar.
  • Familiarity with mechanical tools, electrical systems, and standard safety practices.
  • Experience supporting ski lifts, gondolas, tramways, chairlifts, or similar transportation systems.
  • Knowledge of ANSI B77.1 and other related safety codes (OSHA, CPTSB, ANSI, NFPA). 
  • Familiarity with CPTSB regulations, regulated safety environments, or safety management systems.
  • Background in operations, mechanical systems, transportation, utilities, outdoor recreation, technical trades, or safety-sensitive roles.

Transferable experience may come from a variety of trade and technical fields, including construction, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, welding, carpentry, heavy equipment operation, manufacturing, utilities, or other roles that require strong judgment, procedural compliance, and a commitment to safety. 

Physical & Environmental Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, and remain alert for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift 50+ pounds as needed.
  • Comfort working at heights and around moving mechanical equipment.
  • Ability to work in changing mountain weather conditions, including wind, sun, rain, snow, heat, and cold.
  • On-site presence required during scheduled shifts.

Training & Certification

  • All Lift Mechanics receive role-specific training, including safety procedures, emergency response, and operational standards.
  • Ongoing training and certification support are provided to ensure compliance with CPTSB and internal requirements and to support progression between levels.

Compensation

  • Hourly Rate: $22 - $38/hour, commensurate with experience
  • Non-exempt, full-time position
