Position Overview

The Mighty Argo Cable Car (MACC) in Idaho Springs is a state-of-the-art cable car system connecting visitors to Colorado's rich mining heritage, scenic mountain trailheads at Virginia Canyon Mountain Park, and sweeping views of the Colorado Rockies from Miner's Point---a vibrant recreational complex featuring dining, an amphitheater, and year-round events and activities for all ages.

The Lead Lift Operator at the Mighty Argo Cable Car (MACC) serves as the on-shift operational lead for lift operations, supporting the safe, reliable, and professional operation of the cable car system. This is a safety-critical leadership role responsible for reinforcing operating standards, coordinating daily lift activities, supporting onboarding and training, and serving as a point of escalation during assigned shifts.

Lead Lift Operators perform their duties in accordance with Colorado Passenger Tramway Safety Board (CPTSB) regulations, ANSI B77.1 standards, manufacturer requirements, internal operating procedures, and approved emergency response plans. This role acts as a bridge between Lift Operators and supervisory leadership.

 

Key Responsibilities

Operational Leadership & Oversight

  • Serve as the on-shift operational lead for Lift Operators, providing direction, coordination, and support during daily operations.
  • Lead and verify opening and shutdown procedures, ensuring required inspections, system checks, and documentation are completed accurately.
  • Monitor lift operations across stations to ensure procedural compliance and consistent operating standards.
  • Act as the primary operational point of contact during assigned shifts, escalating issues to the Lift Maintenance & Operations Supervisor as required.

Safety & Emergency Response Coordination

  • Reinforce and model MACC's safety-first culture, ensuring adherence to CPTSB regulations, manufacturer requirements, and internal procedures.
  • Support the execution of Emergency Action and Evacuation Plans during incidents or service interruptions.
  • Maintain heightened situational awareness of weather, line conditions, terminal activity, lift performance, and guest behavior.
  • Participate in and help lead safety drills, emergency exercises, and operational refreshers.

Team Leadership & Training Support

  • Serve as the primary on-shift liaison between Lift Operators and the Lift Maintenance team, supporting clear communication, situational awareness, and coordinated response to operational or mechanical issues, while escalating as required.
  • Provide day-to-day guidance, coaching, and real-time feedback to Lift Operators.
  • Assist with on-the-job training, cross-training, and mentoring of new and existing operators.
  • Observe operator performance and communicate training needs, concerns, or commendations to supervisory staff.
  • Support ticket scanning operations and cross-functional coverage as assigned.

Compliance, Documentation & Reporting

  • Ensure operational logs, safety checklists, and required documentation are completed accurately and on time.
  • Support CPTSB inspections, audits, and reviews by maintaining operational readiness and documentation standards.
  • Promptly report safety concerns, near misses, incidents, or procedural deviations in accordance with company and CPTSB requirements.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of applicable regulations, policies, and procedural updates.

Guest Experience & Communication

  • Serve as a visible leader and point of escalation for guest concerns during lift operations.
  • Support clear, accurate, and calm guest communication during delays, service interruptions, or unexpected events, in coordination w th lift leadership.
  • Reinforce consistent boarding instructions, safety messaging, and professional guest interactions.
  • Serve as an ambassador for MACC's commitment to safety, professionalism, and hospitality.

Coordination & Site Support

  • Coordinate closely with Lift Maintenance, Guest Services, F&B, and site leadership to ensure aligned operations and consistent guest messaging.
  • Support cleanliness, organization, and safety of terminals, stations, and work areas.
  • Assist with staffing coverage, break coordination, and operational adjustments during assigned shifts.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Successful completion of background check and pre-employment drug screening in accordance with applicable laws (marijuana excluded).
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety, procedural compliance, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with guests, teammates, and supervisors.
  • Ability to follow written procedures and accurately complete documentation.
  • Willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Availability to work weekends, holidays, and flexible schedules as required by operations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience as a Lift Operator or in a safety-sensitive operational role.
  • Experience working with lifts, gondolas, tramways, or similar transportation systems.
  • Familiarity with CPTSB regulations, ANSI B77.1 standards, or regulated safety environments.
  • Experience providing on-the-job training or serving in a lead or mentor capacity.

Physical & Environmental Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, and remain alert for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. as needed.
  • Comfortable working at heights and around mechanical equipment.
  • Ability to work in changing weather conditions, including wind, sun, rain, snow, heat, and cold.
  • On-site presence required during shifts.

Training & Certification

  • Completion of all required MACC lift operations training.
  • Ongoing participation in safety training, emergency response drills, and certification refreshers to maintain compliance with CPTSB and internal standards.

Compensation

  • Starting at $23.00 / hour, commensurate with experience and lead responsibilities.
  • Non-exempt, full-time.
