Job Introduction:
- The Idaho Department of Fish and Game is seeking one to two fisheries technicians (\$18.61/hr non-benefitted) to be part of a crew responsible for monitoring the population dynamics of both Native and Non-native fish species across eastern Idaho. This position will begin in early May 2026 and end in mid-September 2026. Applicants should include their earliest available start date and latest end date in their application materials. General Information:
- This position is based out of the Upper Snake River Regional IDFG office in Idaho Falls, ID, but will travel throughout eastern Idaho. Work locations will focus largely on the Henrys Fork of the Snake River, the Big Lost River Drainage, and Ririe Reservoir. This position will collect data on the regions many sportfish (emphasis on Yellowstone Cutthroat Trout, Rainbow Trout, and Mountain Whitefish). Many fisheries techniques will be used to complete this work including but not limited to electrofishing, passive net sampling, fish dissections, fish aging, creel surveys, and data entry and summarization. This position will frequently travel to work in remote locations and sometimes in inclement weather. Some locations may be physically demanding to access and may require hiking several miles across steep, rocky terrain. The work schedule for this position may require extended hours on weekends/holidays, but will primarily consist of weekdays when possible. This position may require some time spent camping in remote locations to complete fieldwork.

The Idaho Department of Fish and Game is seeking a Fishery Technician. This position will be located at our Upper Snake regional office located in Idaho Falls, Idaho. This is a non-benefitted temporary position and is expected to work \40 hours per week.

Incumbents may be required to travel to remote locations for fish tagging, trapping, spawning or sampling operations. These positions involve walking several miles over rugged terrain and along stream banks; standing and working in cold water for up to eight hours per shift; lifting and carrying equipment weighing up to 60 pounds and occasional lifting and carrying up to 100 pounds for short distances; operate four-wheel drive and off-road vehicles in rugged terrain; working underwater using snorkel equipment; and working in extreme weather conditions.
Incumbents working at fish hatch ries work with toxic chemicals and around heavy dust, high voltage, loud noises, and slippery surfaces. Evening, weekend, and holiday work may be required.
Responsibilities:
- This position will assist the fisheries biologist with routine fish population surveys, creel surveys, lab analysis, data entry/summarization, and accessing remote field sites. The successful applicant will primarily work as a team with the fisheries biologist and/or other crew member, but at times will be required to work individually without the supervisor present.
Minimum Qualifications: (These qualifications are required)
- Some knowledge of life history, anatomy, and ecology of various fish species.
- Experience: recording, summarizing, and analyzing scientific data; diagnosing and repairing minor mechanical problems.
- Valid driver\'s license.
Minimum Qualifications Specialty: (These qualifications are required.)
