Job Summary:

The Controller will oversee all accounting operations, providing accurate financial reporting and analysis to drive profitability for paving projects. Key responsibilities include job costing, cash flow management, percentage-of-completion revenue recognition, and inventory management for materials. The successful candidate will provide key financial and operational indicators to the President and Managers. This includes financial modeling, forecasting, operational analysis, and budgets. The Controller will recommend and implement effective controls and procedures.

Duties/Responsibilities: Maintain up-to-date, accurate job cost data to provide analysis on labor, equipment, and material costs for each project. Manage daily AP/AR, bank reconciliations, payroll, and credit card administration. Lead month-end/year-end close, producing accurate financial statements, including percentage-of-completion (POC) revenue recognition. Partner with operations to develop annual budgets and cash flow projections. Implement and maintain robust internal controls to protect company assets and ensure compliance with GAAP. Oversee local tax filings, subcontractor prequalification, and support external audit activities. Hire, mentor, and supervise accounting staff.

Qualifications: Education: Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. Minimum 7-10 years of corporate accounting experience; proven experience as a Financial Controller (or similar role) in a smaller/medium sized company Software Skills: Proficiency in accounting software (Foundations) and MS Office (especially Excel). Key Skills: Strong knowledge of job costing, percentage-of-completion revenue recognition, and GAAP standards. Communication: Proven ability to communicate financial results to operational managers and company executives. Highly organized and detail-oriented Ability to prioritize and meet multiple deadlines Process improvement mindset Ability to drive change in a positive and collaborative manner
