About this position:
The Gas Meter Technician position is responsible for ensuring accurate gas measurement and supporting NorthWestern Energy's Renewable Natural Gas (RNG) purchase stations. Essential job functions include testing, proving, calibrating, and troubleshooting high-volume gas metering installations. As well as constructing, commissioning, operating and maintaining of RNG purchase stations. This role requires technical expertise in the fields of gas measurement and gas quality, problem-solving skills, and a strong commitment to safety and reliability.

About this job:
Gas Metering Responsibilities:
Install correctors, data loggers, and wireless communication devices as required
Configure and program electronic correctors, and data logging devices
Support integration of metering systems with SCADA or other monitoring platforms
Assist in troubleshooting communication systems for remote meter monitoring
Validate large-volume gas meter accuracy in the field via differential testing and standardized proving procedures
Shop proving of gas meters
Troubleshoot, analyze, and calibrate gas metering installations and metering instruments
Field validation of fixed factor settings on applicable meter sets to maintain measurement integrity
Provide technical support to operations teams for metering-related concerns
Renewable Natural Gas Responsibilities:
Maintain and support RNG facilities for both planned maintenance and emergency call-outs
Configure and calibrate gas analyzers, flow meters, and monitoring instruments
Assist in integrating RNG systems with SCADA or other remote monitoring platforms
Document commissioning activities and maintain compliance records for RNG installations
Inspect, analyze, troubleshoot and repair gas quality instruments in RNG facilities
Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations, codes, and NorthWestern Energy safety standards
Conduct preventive maintenance and reliability checks on RNG processing equipment
Respond to alarms and emergency situations to restore RNG facility operations promptly
Additional Requirements:
Up to 70% travel away from home area per year with some overnight stays as needed

Demonstrate and maintain a good safety record
High school diploma or equivalent required
Basic understanding or working knowledge of the principles of gas quality
Working knowledge of gas measurement and regulation preferred
Experienced gas technician preferred
Experience working with gas quality instrumentation highly sought after
Ability to complete OQ requirements as assigned by the company
Valid driver's license and satisfactory driving record
Ability to individually lift and manipulate needed equipment weighing up to 75 pounds
Must agree to live within an area approved by the company that allows for adequate response to our customers in call out and emergency situations
