Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity Nursery Worker II - Trabajador de Vivero II in Huron, Michigan
One hundred ten (110) Nursery Workers are needed in Erie, Lorain, Franklin, and Cuyahoga Counties, Ohio, to produce nursery stock including containerized and balled-and-burlapped trees, shrubs, perennials, and annuals. Duties include planting cuttings; fertilizing and applying chemicals; pruning, transplanting, spacing, staking, irrigating, and culling plants; harvesting, grading, packing, labeling, loading, storing, and installing products; and assisting with winter storage houses, including installing and removing poly covers and blankets. Workers will box, weigh, and load products, including lifting and carrying items weighing up to 60 pounds to heights of up to 5 feet, for extended periods. Additional tasks include irrigation, ditching, shoveling, hoeing, hauling, ground preparation, weeding, and incidental operation of mechanized equipment such as tractors, planters, sprayers, and cultivators. Work requires long hours standing, bending, repetitive motions, and extensive walking in outdoor conditions with temperatures ranging from 10°F to 100°F, including occasional light rain. Saturday work is required. Applicants must have at least two (2) months of prior experience in a wholesale nursery or crop farm, be able to follow verbal or written instructions, and perform both manual and mechanized tasks efficiently. Employer-paid post-hire and random drug testing is required under a Drug-Free Workplace policy; failure to pass results in immediate termination.
