General Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in related field. Four years of experience in a related field. A combination of education, experience, and training that would produce the required knowledge and abilities could be considered.

Nature & Purpose of Position/Usual Duties:

Assistant to the director with programs and initiatives in the First-Generation Center ( FGC ). Performs complex managerial work providing direction and guidance in operations in the department.

Primary Responsibilities (Staff Positions Only):

Assists with the management and strategic planning of the First-Generation Center ( FGC ). Recruits, trains, and supervises a dynamic team of student staff, cultivating their leadership potential and commitment to first-gen advocacy. Leads the planning and execution of signature events such as the First-Gen Mixer, National First-Generation Week, and National First-Generation College Celebration Day. Implements assessment tools and metrics to evaluate program effectiveness and student engagement. Oversees the First-Gen Trailblazer Mentoring Program, matching students with faculty and staff mentors, and implements meaningful engagement strategies to foster academic and personal development. Monitors an allocated budget, including the awarding and disbursement of First-Generation Center scholarships. Assists with monitoring the academic performance of first-gen students flagged through early alert systems and proactively intervenes to prevent academic probation and suspension. Builds and sustains strong partnerships with offices, including the Academic Success Center, SAM Center, Financial Aid, Career Success Center, Admissions, and Health & Wellness Services, to holistically support first-generation students. Oversees all marketing efforts, including social media and outreach campaigns, to increase visibility and engagement across campus and with prospective students. Represents the First-Generation Center at new student orientation, Saturdays at Sam, and other campus events to promote the office’s resources and services. Serves on university committees and contributes to broader institutional goals related to first-generation student retention. Performs other related duties as assigned.
