JOB DESCRIPTION
The FBI is looking for Network Engineers to join its technical professionals — men and women who keep the nation’s networks and systems safe across the cyberspectrum. In this role, experienced IT networking professionals will design and configure superior network architectures leveraging an array of technical and complex solutions; analyze and diagnose networking designs; and identify, document and share best practices and recommendations.
SALARY LEVEL
GS Level 7-14
GS-7 $48,670 – $63,267
GS-14 $121,316 – $157,709
Salary is commensurate to experience and location.
DUTIES
Design network architecture and configuring network hardware; maintain and administer computer networks and related computing environments; and perform disaster recovery operations and data backups.
Have working knowledge of network analysis tools, including but not limited to SolarWinds, HP and Riverbed.
Have advanced knowledge of network operating systems, including but not limited to Cisco, JUNOS and IOS.
Have experience in troubleshooting, diagnosing and resolving hardware, software and other network and system problems (replacing faulty network hardware components and monitoring network performance).
Monitor network performance and security issues such as firewalls and supporting functions; deal with escalated network support issues (creating network status reports); and confer with network users about solving existing system problems.
Apply advanced technical expertise to create accurate network diagrams and documentation, including but not limited to using Visio.
Have demonstrated ability to design, configure and test networking software; plan network communication systems; and implement network security measures (conducting regular network performance tests).
Configure and utilize computer protection components by planning, installing and maintaining routers and switches for network systems.
Evaluate and recommend new and innovative technology.
Have strong knowledge of application transport in addition to the ability to maintain current and accurate documentation of existing and future network infrastructure protocols.
Have strong understanding of network infrastructure and network hardware components, including Type 1 encryptors.
KEY REQUIREMENTS
Must be a U.S. citizen.
Must have a bachelor's degree or higher from a U.S.-accredited college or university.
Must be able to obtain a Top Secret Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) Clearance.
Meet the FBI’s Employment Eligibility requirements.
Must pass an FBI polygraph examination.
Must have (or be able to obtain) a valid driver’s license.
Must pass an FBI-administered urinalysis drug test.
Must be in compliance with the FBI Employment Drug Policy:
No use of marijuana within the last three years.
No use of any other illegal drug in the past 10 years.
No selling, distributing, manufacturing or transporting of any illegal drugs.
No use of a prescription drug or a legally obtainable substance in a manner for which it was not intended within the last three years.
Must never have been convicted of a felony.
Must never have knowingly or willfully engaged in acts or activities designed to overthrow the U.S. government by force.
Must never have failed to file federal, state or local income tax returns.
Must not be in default on a student loan insured by the U.S. government.
Must not be in default on court-ordered child support payments.
Must be registered with the Selective Service System (males only, exceptions apply).
