Aerotek General Production Worker in Huntsville, Alabama
Job Title: General Production Worker
Job Description
This role supports an industrial chemical manufacturing process by performing hands-on production tasks, including operating machinery, handling materials, and working around high-temperature furnaces and powdered metals. The position involves very physical work in a demanding, non-climate-controlled environment, contributing to the initial stages of tungsten production.
Responsibilities
Handle barrels of tungsten powder and load them into dryers as the first step in the chemical manufacturing process.
Perform general production and industrial labor tasks, including moving product, staging materials, and supporting machine operation.
Operate and monitor industrial equipment such as high-temperature furnaces, robots, and other production machinery under supervision and according to safety procedures.
Use hand tools and basic mechanical skills to support production activities and equipment operation.
Work in and around a chemical plant environment, including areas with ammonia odors, black powder residue, and powdered metals.
Walk, stand, and move throughout the facility for the majority of the shift, including regularly going up and down stairs.
Follow established safety protocols and wear required personal protective equipment while working around high heat, chemicals, and industrial equipment.
Maintain a clean and organized work area, managing residue and dust generated from black powder and powdered metal processes.
Participate fully in a two-week training program, including off-site and on-site training, and apply learned procedures on the production floor.
Meet performance expectations for productivity, quality, reliability, and adherence to standard operating procedures throughout the contract period.
Essential Skills
High school diploma or GED required.
Ability to lift up to 30 pounds regularly during the shift.
Ability to perform very physical work, including walking and standing for 12-hour shifts and climbing stairs throughout the day.
Willingness and ability to work in a non-climate-controlled, dirty, and hot industrial environment, including temperatures that can exceed 120°F.
Good, consistent work history demonstrating reliability and strong attendance.
Experience in manufacturing, general production, or machine operation preferred.
Comfort working around chemicals, powdered metals, and strong ammonia odors.
Ability to work 12-hour night shifts on a rotating schedule (approximately 6:30 PM–6:30 AM, 3 days on/2 days off, then 2 days on/3 days off).
Ability to complete required training on day shift prior to moving to the regular schedule.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Previous experience in a chemical plant environment is highly preferred.
Background in mechanical work, construction, or roofing is beneficial due to the physical and industrial nature of the role.
Experience with hand tools and basic mechanical aptitude is an advantage.
Prior exposure to industrial production, assembly, or general labor roles is helpful.
Comfort working around high-temperature furnaces, robots, and industrial machinery.
Ability to adapt to a demanding physical workload and maintain performance over long shifts.
Openness to a contract role with the potential for early conversion or extended contract based on performance.
Why Work Here?
You join a team that values strong work ethic, reliability, and the ability to perform in a challenging industrial environment. The schedule offers long stretches of time off, as you work roughly 15 days per month on 12-hour shifts, allowing for extended personal time between workdays. Comprehensive training over two weeks prepares you for the work and helps you build skills in industrial production, machine operation, and chemical manufacturing. Strong performance can lead to opportunities beyond the initial contract period, offering a pathway to longer-term stability in a specialized manufacturing setting.
Work Environment
The role is based in a chemical plant that uses high-temperature furnaces, robots, and equipment for powdered metal processing. The environment is non-climate-controlled, very dirty, and physically demanding, with black powder residue that will accumulate on clothing and skin by the end of each shift. Temperatures can become extremely hot, especially in the summer, exceeding 120°F in some areas. There is a noticeable ammonia smell in parts of the facility, and employees work around powdered metals and chemical processes. The position follows a 12-hour night shift schedule from approximately 6:30 PM to 6:30 AM, on a rotating 3-on/2-off, 2-on/3-off pattern, resulting in about 15 working days per month. Before joining the regular shift, employees complete a two-week training period, including one week at a training facility in Decatur and one week of on-site training. The work requires constant walking, standing, climbing stairs, and manual handling of materials in a tough industrial setting, with appropriate protective equipment provided according to site standards.
