Job Title: Driver / Shipping and Receiving Associate

Job Description

This role supports the logistics department by safely transporting hardware, equipment, raw materials, and various other items between multiple local sites and suppliers, while performing comprehensive shipping and receiving activities. The position involves operating a range of vehicles, handling materials including hazardous items not subject to DOT regulations, and ensuring accurate documentation and inventory control across three locations within a 50-mile radius.

Responsibilities

  • Transport hardware, equipment, raw materials, and other items safely between three local facilities and area suppliers within approximately a 50-mile radius.

  • Report to the designated site each morning, load products into the assigned vehicle, ensure all items are properly secured and strapped down, and complete the delivery route to the other facilities.

  • Backtrack at the end of the day to return materials or equipment as needed and complete the daily route cycle.

  • Operate Mercedes transit vans, box trucks with lift gates, and occasionally a pickup truck with a 30-foot trailer in a safe and responsible manner.

  • Perform shipping and receiving duties, including signing for packages, verifying contents against documentation, and ensuring accurate recordkeeping.

  • Load and unload products using a pallet jack and forklift, following safe material-handling practices.

  • Handle and transport hazardous materials of types and quantities not subject to DOT regulations, applying proper handling, storage, and safety procedures.

  • Coordinate and communicate clearly with transportation requesters to confirm requirements, schedules, and delivery expectations.

  • Receive, inspect, and document incoming materials, verifying condition, quantities, and accuracy of shipments.

  • Understand and follow proper storage and handling procedures for various materials, including critical flight hardware and hazardous materials.

  • Prepare critical flight hardware, hazardous materials, and Government Furnished Property for shipment, ensuring correct packaging, labeling, and compliance with applicable regulatory and internal standards.

  • Maintain accurate inventory-related documentation and support inventory control processes as part of shipping and receiving operations.

  • Demonstrate self-accountability and work effectively with limited supervision, managing time and priorities to complete daily routes and warehouse tasks.

Essential Skills

  • At least 3+ years of non-CDL driving experience in a professional or comparable setting.

  • Proven warehouse, shipping, and receiving experience, including handling incoming and outgoing materials.

  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.

  • Ability to safely drive box trucks, vans, and truck/trailer combinations, including a pickup truck with a 30-foot trailer.

  • Ability to operate a forklift safely and effectively.

  • Experience using pallet jacks and other basic material-handling equipment.

  • Demonstrated self-accountability and ability to work with limited supervision.

  • Experience with transportation and inventory-related tasks in a logistics or warehouse environment.

  • Ability to handle and transport hazardous materials of types and quantities not subject to DOT regulations, following proper procedures.

  • Strong coordination and communication skills to work with transportation requesters and internal stakeholders.

  • Attention to detail in receiving, inspecting, documenting, packaging, and labeling materials.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with an ERP inventory software for tracking and managing materials and shipments (preferred).

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint for reporting, documentation, and communication (preferred).

  • Familiarity with preparing critical flight hardware and Government Furnished Property for shipment is a plus.

  • Ability to follow regulatory and internal standards for packaging, labeling, and shipping hazardous materials.

  • Strong organizational skills to manage multiple deliveries, paperwork, and inventory tasks throughout the day.

Work Environment

The role involves working both inside warehouse and facility environments and outside while driving and loading or unloading vehicles. You will operate Mercedes transit vans, box trucks with lift gates, and occasionally a pickup truck with a 30-foot trailer for local routes within about 50 miles. Material handling includes the use of forklifts and pallet jacks, as well as working around various types of hardware, equipment, raw materials, and hazardous materials not subject to DOT regulations. The schedule is typically 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, with a one-hour lunch break. The position offers limited direct supervision, so you will work in a setting that values self-accountability, reliability, and the ability to manage your own day effectively.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Houston, TX.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $21.00 - $23.00/hr.
