Shipping Clerk Lead (Contract-to-Hire)
Location: On-site – Houston, TX (77088)
Schedule: Full-time
Employment Type: Contract-to-Hire (6 months)
About the Role
A reputable Houston-based company is seeking an experienced Shipping Clerk Lead to join a fast-paced, high-volume shipping environment. This is a hands-on lead role requiring strong customer service, export documentation experience, and the ability to multitask across multiple systems while supporting daily shipping operations.
This position was created due to increased workload and will play a key role in supporting the shipping department while helping guide other team members.
Key Responsibilities
Coordinate and process a high volume of daily shipments accurately and efficiently
Prepare, review, and manage export documentation while toggling between multiple computer systems
Provide product pricing and shipping information using pricing matrices and complex tables
Develop cost-effective, time-sensitive quotes via phone and email
Enter customer orders and generate order-related paperwork
Estimate lead times to ensure on-time shipments and customer satisfaction
Handle inbound customer calls and emails professionally
Resolve customer inquiries and shipping issues
Support add-on sales by maintaining strong product knowledge and making recommendations
Create estimates, discounts, and RFQs as needed
Build and maintain strong relationships with customers and vendors
Provide informal guidance and support to team members as a lead
Perform other related duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
3+ years of experience in shipping, customer support, inside sales, or a related role
Experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment
Strong knowledge of export documentation and shipping processes
Excellent customer service skills; comfortable speaking with customers and vendors by phone
Ability to multitask and switch between multiple software systems quickly
Strong data entry and typing skills (50+ WPM required)
Proficiency with Microsoft Office; experience with ERP systems preferred
Self-directed with the ability to seek answers and prioritize tasks independently
Nice to Have
Bilingual in English and Spanish
Salesforce or CRM experience
Prior lead or informal people-management experience

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $23.00/hr.
