Actalent Senior Project Engineer in Houston, Texas

Job Title: Senior Project Engineer

The Senior Project Engineer applies broad knowledge of process, mechanical, electrical, and civil engineering to develop high‑quality documents, calculations, and drawings that support complex water and wastewater treatment projects. This role manages multiple projects and technologies simultaneously, oversees contracts, and supports procurement and document control activities.

The Senior Project Engineer also helps develop new suppliers and supply strategies for thermal products, engages directly with clients to understand their most critical challenges, and translates those needs into complete project solutions and winning proposals.

Responsibilities

  • Apply process, mechanical, electrical, and civil engineering principles to prepare engineering documents, calculations, and drawings for water and wastewater treatment plants and related equipment.

  • Lead and manage multiple projects and technologies concurrently, ensuring scope, schedule, budget, and quality objectives are met.

  • Oversee and support contract execution, including coordination with internal teams, vendors, and contractors.

  • Support procurement activities by helping to identify, evaluate, and develop suppliers, particularly for thermal products and related equipment.

  • Develop and implement new supplier relationships and supply philosophies that improve quality, reliability, and cost-effectiveness of thermal products.

  • Engage clients in meaningful, technical discussions to understand their most critical issues and project requirements.

  • Translate client discussions and technical needs into clear project scopes, engineering solutions, and actionable project plans.

  • Capture and organize technical notes, requirements, and decisions to ensure accurate and complete project documentation.

  • Actively participate in pursuit and bid/no-bid decisions, contributing technical insight to sales and business development efforts.

  • Contribute to proposal development, including technical content, scope definition, and input to pricing and project execution strategies.

  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with key industry partners, including vendors, contractors, and licensors.

  • Collaborate with vendors and contractors to align on technical specifications, schedules, and deliverables.

  • Use and support engineering document control standards to ensure consistent, accurate, and traceable project documentation.

  • Apply management of change controls to engineering documentation, ensuring changes are properly reviewed, approved, and recorded.

  • Create and maintain process engineering documents such as P&IDs, equipment datasheets, functional descriptions, submittals, project schedules, and document indexes.

  • Prepare and manage project budgets, schedules, plans, and forecasts, and monitor progress against these metrics.

  • Interact regularly with customers and vendors to clarify requirements, resolve technical issues, and ensure alignment throughout the project lifecycle.

  • Use MS Excel, MS Word, MS Project, MS PowerPoint, and AutoCAD to develop engineering deliverables, reports, schedules, and presentations.

  • Support internal and external reviews, including design reviews, progress meetings, and technical presentations.

  • Travel as needed, up to approximately 25%, to client sites, vendor facilities, and project locations for meetings, reviews, and coordination.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Civil, or Chemical Engineering preferred; other engineering degrees considered with commensurate experience.

  • 7+ years of experience working with water and/or wastewater treatment plants and equipment.

  • More than 2 years of experience working and interacting directly with customers and vendors on technical projects.

  • More than 2 years of experience developing project budgets, schedules, plans, and forecasts.

  • At least 5 years of experience in project management for industrial equipment.

  • At least 5 years of experience forming process engineering documents such as P&IDs, equipment datasheets, functional descriptions, submittals, project schedules, and document indexes.

  • Strong project management skills, including planning, organizing, and managing multiple concurrent projects.

  • Proficiency in MS Excel, MS Word, MS Project, and MS PowerPoint.

  • Proficiency with AutoCAD products for creating and modifying engineering drawings.

  • Experience with wastewater and wastewater treatment systems and processes.

  • Strong mechanical engineering and project engineering capabilities.

  • Ability to engage clients in technical discussions and translate requirements into practical engineering solutions.

  • Ability to travel up to approximately 25% as project needs require.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Knowledge of engineering document control standards and best practices.

  • Experience using management of change controls for engineering documentation.

  • Background in equipment design for industrial or water/wastewater applications.

  • Experience working with P&IDs, profiles, and other process engineering documentation for wastewater treatment.

  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain relationships with vendors, contractors, and licensing partners.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for preparing proposals, technical documents, and presentations.

  • Ability to contribute to proposal and pricing development for engineering projects.

Work Environment

The role is based in an office environment, using standard engineering and business software such as MS Excel, MS Word, MS Project, MS PowerPoint, and AutoCAD to produce project deliverables. Work involves regular collaboration with internal teams, clients, vendors, and contractors through meetings, calls, and virtual sessions. The position may require travel of up to approximately 25% to client sites, vendor facilities, and project locations for reviews, coordination, and technical discussions. Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Houston, TX.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $50.00 - $65.00/hr.
